Show Youth take center . ...ir MlMCD fhfm f.y F,,4 o Mcianie Miner Mo,tyors think class-t class-t hool are enough, but fS 8 jq a group of young people Ubih County who actually to take extra classes. TV energetic students A one night a week during year with the Center Le Youth Performers With the Youth Performers, ,nd tj-1s learn to act, dance W The group is made up Jabout50 students from 7 to ig years old. A student can join the group September or January with L culmination of learning JJmes with a major perform-, perform-, each spring. Every student is guaranteed Jit in the performance, but eVe0'one still has to try out. Kris Koss, a Pleasant Grove ident and the producer for the Youth Performers, said that going through the audition Less teaches the students how to handle themselves in such a situation and prepares them for future opnortiinit.ips Ross explained that the spring play is the 'lab" where the students put in practice what they have learned. The tuition from the students helps pay for the costumes, props and other costs associated with producing a large performance. perform-ance. This year the spring play is a musical by Meredith Willson entitled "Music Man Jr." The play runs tonight, April 29 at the Ragan Theater at Utah Valley Val-ley State College. Admission is $3 and the performances begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. The executive board for the Youth Performers has been together for eight years. Lori Sanders, Kris Ross and Shawna Ivins make up the board. All three women have years of experience with the theater. They volunteer their time and talents to help the youth learn how to perform. "It's very rewarding," said staae New Utah - Thursday, April 29, 2004 - Page 13 Ross. In addition to the board, Tamera Young does the choreography, choreog-raphy, Donna Erickson helps fashion the costumes, Corinne Mayberry helps keep everything every-thing running and Tiffany Nutter Nut-ter is the musical director. I Also, Ross's husband, Gene, has built the sets for the plays eveiy year. The "core" of the students comes from Pleasant Grove and the rest of the students are from other Utah County cities reaching reach-ing as far as Payson. Students from across Utah County coming together could be a difficult thing, but at an 8-hour 8-hour rehearsal on Saturday more than a dozen students offstage off-stage danced to the music like trees blowing in the wind. J With a smile, Ross mentioned that their dance was not part of the play. Clearly the students had become a team over the year. Ross explained that they pan be very funny, "but they work1 so hard." County refiles charges in killing By Caleb Warnock Utah Valley staff Almost exactly three years after Pleasant Grove.1 businesswoman Mina Pajela was found dead from a bullet wound to the head, murder charges were filed against Pajela's former employee Tuesday morning. The Utah County attorney's attor-ney's office filed the charges against Kerri Brown in 4th District Court on Tuesday morning, morn-ing, said Utah County attorney Kay Bryson. A former adniinistrator for the Mira Vista Retirement Retire-ment Center in American Fork, which Pajela owned, Brown was arrested in December 2001 on charges she stole more than $40,000 from the business. Four months later, Brown was arrested again, this time on a murder charge. Police believe Brown murdered mur-dered Pajela to cover up her financial crimes. The murder charge was later dismissed for lack of evidence. evi-dence. "The investigation has been going since the charges were dismissed previously, and at this point we believe we have all the information necessary neces-sary to move forward," Bryson said. Brown has been living in Arizona, said Bryson, apparently with her "common-law husband," a tribal police officer who owned the gun purported to be the weapon used to kill Pajela on April 25, 2001. She is expected to return to Utah next month to face 20 second-degree felony charges of communications commu-nications fraud and money laundering, also stemming from the investigation into Pajela's murder. "She has a required court date to deal with the financial charges against her, and we anticipate she'll be here then," Bryson said. "Because she is not going to be arrested, she will appear and be given the information that there are (murder) charges against her, and a date will be set for a felony first appearance before a judge." Brown will not face the death penalty, he said. Police have said physical physi-cal evidence and eyewitness eyewit-ness testimony place Brown at the scene where the body of Pajela, 54, was found under a blanket on the passenger-side floor of her own white Honda Accord, shot through the head. ftfe YV7 A WW WM)8 pall MnptkBS 1 VI hrsoaats Abortion?
