Show Funeral Services Held Here For Joseph S Thornton Largely attended were the funeral services held Friday afternoon, Aug. 9, at 3 p. m. in the Fourth ward chapel for Joseph S. Thornton, 79, of San Louis, California, who died in this city August 7, at the home of his niece, Mrs. R. II. Hansen. Mr. Thornton Thorn-ton came here from California, July 26, to visit relatives. While at the-home the-home of his niece he had a paralytic stroke, wLich resulted in his death. Counselor Thomas Coddington officiated at the services, which opened open-ed with a quartet singing "Oh My Father.'' Martin Hansen gave the opening prayer, after which the n quartet sang "Abide With Me." William S. Robinson and Bishop Lot Robinson were the speakers, each of them conveying many consoling con-soling remarks to those iu bereave- fi ment. Interspersing the speakers, Mr. " and Mrs. Edmund Hansen of Spanisii Fork sang a duet and Miss Ann Clay- son played a violin solo "Dry Those Tears." Counselor Coddington pronounced ' the benediction. , , The body was taken to Ferron, Emery County, where the Thornton family once resided, for burial. . ,. Joseph S. Thornton, son of Oliver I and Mary Griswald Thornton, was , born in Lynn County, Missouri, June 29, 1850. lie came to Utah with his parents in 1852. In February 1876 he married Eltse C. Christensen. To this union were born three daugh- (i ters, all of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton spent most of their-married their-married life in Ferron, Emery-County. Emery-County. IJ'a wife died some thirty-years thirty-years ago, and since that time he has lived with his daughter in Alberta, Canada, and in Salt Lake City. A year ago they moved to San Louis, California, where he has since resided. resid-ed. His daughters who survive are as follows: Mrs. Margaret A. Mc-Kenzle; Mc-Kenzle; of Provo, Emery County, Mrs. May G lines of San Louis, California, Cali-fornia, and 'Mrs. Lydla Lovendahl of Moreland, Utah. One brother. Nathan Thornton of Idaho, 20 grandchildren grand-children and a number of great grnnd -children also survive. |
