Show Church and Civic Worker Dies Following Operation ' : 't ' . " '0 (..? - "-'V. -r t JACOB LeROY GREENWOOD The entire community was shocked shock-ed and grieved when word was received re-ceived of the death of Jacob LeRoy Greenwood at St. Louis Monday, following a lung operation the previous prev-ious Wednesday at the Barnes hospital. hos-pital. Word Thursday indicated the operation had proven entirely successful suc-cessful but pneumonia set in later and was the direct cause of his death. Mrs. Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Moffett, inseparable friends of the Greenwoods, accompanied accom-panied Mr. Greenwood to the hospital hospi-tal and all three were with him to the end. "Roy" Greenwood, as he was affectionately af-fectionately known by his wide circle cir-cle of friends here and in other parts of the state, was one of the communities commu-nities most popular civic and church leaders. He was in the prime of life, being only 53 years of age, and thru his pleasing personality had endeared himself to everyone he came in contact with. Born at American Fork, May 17, 1884, a son of Jacob and Melissa Greenwood, he was one of the town's most Influential citizens. From 1930 to 1934 he served as mayor, was a former Lions club president, for many years an officer in the First L. D. S. ward Mutual Improvement association, acting chairman of the Old Folks committee, senior president presi-dent of the L. D. S. seventies quorum quor-um and participated in many other church and civic organizations. He operated a produce trucking business to Bingham and was owner own-er and operator of the Apollo recreation rec-reation hall here. In addition to taking care of these business enterprises enter-prises he had engaged in the sheep business to some extent. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Luella Boley Greenwood; two daughters, Mrs. Fern Kelly of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Melissa G. Robinson Rob-inson of American Fork; one son, Glen Greenwood of American Fork; one brother, William Greenwood of Ogden; five sisters, Mrs. Fred A. Henroid and Mrs. Emma G. Anderson Ander-son of Salt Lake City, Mrs. William E. Coates, Mrs. Roy Steele and Mrs. J. F. Walton of American Fork. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday commencing at 2 p. m. in the Alpine Stake tabernacle under the direction of Bishop T. A. Greenwood Green-wood of the First ward. n |
