Show Funeral Services For Orin Ashton Held Wednesday Funeral services for Orin Ashton, manager of the Utah Power & Light company office at American Fork, were conducted Wednesday afternoon after-noon of last week in the Alpine stake tabernacle, by Bishop John W. Pulley of the Fourth ward. Speakers at the services were Lot Robinson, former bishop of the Fourth ward, George L. Ellerbeck and Dr. Adam S. Bennion, of the Utah Power & Light company. A biographical sketch read by Mr. Robinson follows: Biography Of Orin Ashton Orin Ashton was born at Lehi, Utah, December 28, 1874, the youngest young-est child of Thomas and Arminta A. Lawrence Ashton, who came to Utah in 1851. He was baptized in the mill race (south and east of Lehi) June 17, 1883, at the age of eight years. He spent his youth and young manhood man-hood in Lehi. He attended the public pub-lic schools; after graduating from the eighth grade he attended the Brigham Young Academy at Provo, one winter. He was employed for a number of years by the Telluride Power company at Lehi and Mercur. In Salt Lake City on July 15, 1902, he married Elsie Hunter of American Ameri-can Fork and the young couple lived liv-ed at Sunshine two years, moving to American Fork in 1904 where they have -resided ever since. For the past 33 years Orin has been employed by the Utah Power and Light company and until during dur-ing the last year has never been absent from work on account of illness. ill-ness. At the time of his death he was serving as manager of the American Fork district of the Utah Power and Light company. He was also prominent in civic affairs, serving serv-ing as an American Fork city councilman coun-cilman from 1926 until 1930. He was a member of the American Fork Lions club and has been active in Democratic party affairs for many years. He died Saturday, February 10, 1940, at 5:45 a. m. in the L. D. S. hospital, Salt Lake City, following a throat operation. He had been ill the past two months. He is survived surviv-ed by his wife; one daughter, Fay; two sisters Emma Ashton and Esther Esth-er A. Powell of Lehi; also four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two babies, a son, Dale, and a daughter, Ora. |
