"I was going to be the greatest great-est actress that ever walked across the stage," she said. "But then I discovered technical techni-cal theater and fell in love with it." Technical theater includes costuming, lighting, choreography, choreog-raphy, sound production and directing, all of which O'Reilly now uses as she coordinates two musicals and one play each year at the school. As a teacher, O'Reilly delights de-lights in seeing her students develop the same passion for drama that she has. but she also holds high expectations for their behavior off the stage. Students are required to keep their grades up in order to perform, per-form, and they must pick up after themselves and be honorable honor-able x-ople to participate. Those self-discipline issues, along with the self confidence and appreciation for literature that students develop while participating in drama, are values O'Reilly seeks to pass along to each of her students. "Those are not just theater things," O'Reilly said. "They're life things." In addition to working with students, O'Reilly said she is privileged to work with adults interested in drama. Having mixed-cast shows highlights a wider range of talents and skills, and demonstrates to students that everyone can contribute regardless of age or experience. "I've been blessed to have very talented teachers who want to be involved," she said. "It's nice for kids to see their teachers involved on a different differ-ent level working and learning the same stuff (the students) are." Despite the most talented participants, however, O'Reilly does face challenges organizing orga-nizing the drama program. A good program, she said, requires significant funding for props, sets, costumes and other necessary equipment, and most shows bring in very little profit after taking care of art, Jacob Swain, Tyler Swain, Steven Turner, Virginia Voeks, Gregory Winward, Tyler Win-ward, Win-ward, Bree Woolstenhulme. 11th grade honor roll: Nathan Adamson, Regan Bailey, Gloria Baird, Anthony Barajas, Angela An-gela Bateman, Michael Black, David Broadbent, Madison Call, Audra Campbell, Corey Carlson, Carl-son, Spencer Carrier. Nevertheless, dedicated parent par-ent volunteers help with many tasks to keep the program excelling. Even while she is teaching students about theater history, his-tory, monologues, set design, pantomime and creativity, O'Reilly said she is also learning learn-ing much from them about human character. She said her students have taught her about patience, acceptance and treasuring every child for their individual potential. "If you just love them purely for the children they are, and you say 'reach the highest you can,' they do strive to reach those goals," she said. In the end, O'Reilly said the most rewarding aspect of her career is that at the end of a show, she does not have only students, she also has friends. When students truly understand under-stand the values she is trying to demonstrate, it makes the long hours of rehearsals and shows more than worthwhile. "It's wonderful when I know that they really get it and I don't have to nag," she said. "When they get it because they choose to." Hart, Jon Wesley Henrie, Emily Hill, Jonathan Horan. It's like, when one woman gets pregnant, all the other women of the world get it in gear to join each other in a world-wide epidemic of morning morn-ing sickness. For high school students, the baby trend doesn't apply so much. Instead, it's the wisdom wis-dom teeth. I had my wisdom teeth removed two weeks ago. Even while I was at the oral surgeon's office waiting my turn I saw two other students from my school also waiting. Upon my return from school, I saw swollen cheeks all over the place! Then, they can start a booth in the school cafeteria serving an assortment of Jell-o, pudding, pud-ding, apple sauce, cream of wheat, and mashed potatoes. Seriously, I think it would help. And, why doesn't this trend ever get press time? Camera crews should start going to high schools, photographing the students-turned-chipmunks, and dedicate an entire page to the blackmail pictures in the next newspaper. So while the women of the world are swelling in the tummy (and ankle) areas, the high school students of the world are swelling in the jaw area, and, well, shrinking in the ego area.
