Show whole town joined in a boycott of non unionists chicago oct 10 A yeary hungry gang of nonunion non union switchmen spent last night in box cars on a siding of the grand trunk freight yards at elsdon they did not tako the lodgings from choice but because the residents of elson out of sympathy for the strikers had driven every nonunion non union nun from shelter in the suburb every hotel lodging quarters boarding house and private residence in elsdon joined in the boycott the stores were locked and the barber shops closed everywhere doors were barred even the saloons refused admittance mit tance to the unwelcome strangers and to cap the climax tho two village marshals with gruff orders to move on proceeded pro ceded to hustad the non unionists out of town confronted elih the alternatives ot having to walk several miles or spend the night in the open the men decided to consult yardmaster conroy ot the grand trunk he found the empty boxcars on tho siding blankets were procured and the 48 nonunion non union men went to bed the railroad raif road officials said that arrangements range ments would be made to house the men in barracks |
