Show Volume V, Issue IX THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 15 February 15, 2002 Announcements Obituaries Dorothy Jensen Gayman OGDEN — Dorothy Jensen Gayman, 78, left us to be again with her eternal companion, Haroldean at a local care center on Friday, January 25, 2002. She was the fourth of six children born to Wilmer C. and Isabel Grow Jensen in Huntsville, Utah, April 1, 1923. She attended school in Huntsville and Ogden, graduating from Weber High School in 1942. She had also attended Weber College and the Ogden Business College. She had worked as a receptionist for the Weber County Commission and as Reserve Librarian at Weber College. Dorothy was married to Haroldean Gayman September 5, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple by President David O. McKay. They moved to Preston, Idaho after their marriage when she became a homemaker and long-time secretary at Utah Power and Light Company. Active in the church for most of her life, she taught in the Sunday School and Primary from age 16 to 60. She was secretary to three Bishops in the Preston 7th Ward, doing correspondence, publishing the weekly bulletins and preparing pamphlets for ward members. She and Harold served on the Genealogy Committee doing research on family, and serving as examiners of the four-generation sheets for many years. She has been a Visiting Teacher most of her adult life. Dorothy enjoyed working in the community, an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a Pink Lady at the Franklin County Care Center, organizing birthday parties for residents. Harold died January 12, 1988 in Preston. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers Keith Jensen and Douglas Jensen. Surviving are sisters Beth (William) Gibson of San Antonio, Texas; Joan (Dwayne) Pace of Wanship; and Kathryn (Richard) Ensign of Huntsville and sixteen nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at noon on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at Larkin & Sons Mortuary. Interment, Franklin, Idaho cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers are suggested. Stanley James (Olie) Bushell SOUTH OGDEN - Stanley James (Olie) Bushell, 79, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2002 at his home. He was born October 13, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to William and Flo Bushell. He married the love of his life, Marion Hunter on November 1, 1947 in Elko, Nevada. Marion preceded him in death on December 25, 1991. Stan attended schools in the Weber County School District. He was a member of the LDS church and had served as a Scoutmaster. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII and retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1985. The most important thing in his life was his family. He devoted his life to his children, grandchildren and to the service of others. He was active for many years as a coach in Little League Baseball and fast pitch softball. He was known as “gramps” to many. He served as president of the Park View and Bonneville PTA. He was past president of the local chapter of Toastmasters, and past president of the Ogden Area Square Dance and the Utah Square and Round Dance Associations. Stan also served as a South Ogden fire department volunteer. He was very active serving the Golden West Credit Union until the time of his death. He served on the Board of Directors for 38 years, serving as Chairman of the Board from 1991-1995. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers: Lionel, Frank, Tom and Doug; two sisters: Billie (Mabel) Owens, and Bonnie Dustin. Stan is survived by sons Randy (Ruth Ann) Bushell, of Eden; John (Jolene) Bushell of Farr West; daughters Bonnie (Dean) Jennings of Orem; and Vicki (Ken) Castle of Plain City; sisters Merial Pomeroy of Ogden; and Cecile Cazier of Ogden; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. “Dad, you taught us by example how to live an honorable life. We love you and will miss you.” Funeral services were held on Monday, February 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt”s Mortuary, in Ogden. Interment, Washington Heights Memorial Park. Send condolences to family at www.leavittsmortuary.com “Together Again” Hailey Homer Howard LIBERTY – Hailey H. Howard, 92, passed away Monday, February 4, 2002 at his home. He was born June 16, 1909 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to Elias Carlton Howard and Frankie May Jones. He married Bonnie Bell Smith on October 22, 1931. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2000. He retired as a rigger from Mare Island in California where he received a certificate of commendation. He also worked for PG and E. When he moved to Utah to be closer to his daughter Bonnie, he worked at the Hermitage and Nordic Valley Ski Resort. Pop loved to bowl and was on many bowling leagues. He golfed and fished also. Pop and Nana loved to travel. They really loved to go to Wendover and spend their quarters that they won bowling. Surviving are two daughters, Bobbie Howard, Liberty; Naomi (G.C.) Moore, Muskogee, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Sweet of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years; his infant son, Teddy; two sisters; and one brother. Graveside services were held on Monday, February 11, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Cemetery. Fischer, 65, passed away Monday, February 4, 2002 at her home. She was born August 11, 1936 in Bremerhaven, Germany to Bauer Nikolaus Voigts and Anna Seedorf Voigts. She married Helmut Heinrich Fischer on September 16, 1956 in Queens Village, NY. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Surviving are three sons, Dean (Roxina), Eden; Rick (Margaret), Oro Valley, Arizona; Kenneth, Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter-in-law, Kimberly, Ormond Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren; and one sister Elfriede of Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Kevin J. Memorial services were held on Sunday, February 10, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Trickey officiating. Funeral directors, Myers Mortuary in Ogden. Send condolences to family at www.myers-mortuary.com Patricia Anne Price Shropshire Patricia Anne Price Shropshire, a truly great lady, passed away on February 1, 2002, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to Reese and Dorothy Price and was their only child. Pat”s grade school years were spent in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. The family moved to Bourbon, Indiana, in 1947, where Pat excelled in high school and was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She then attended college at Indiana University where she also did well academically. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In 1973, Pat married Ralph Shropshire. They lived in South Florida where Pat worked first as a social worker and later in a management position for the state of Florida. During this time, Pat had many interests including flying and earning her private pilot’s license. She and her husband also enjoyed vacationing throughout the United States, deep-sea fishing, and horseback riding. In 1992, Pat and Ralph retired and moved to Eden, Utah. For the next nine years the Shropshires enjoyed the beauty of the area and close relationships with many new friends. They traveled extensively, enjoyed camping, horseback riding, snow skiing, and gardening. The many tapestries Pat produced with her cross-stitching decorated the walls of her home and the walls of friends. She loved animals and the outdoors and was an avid wildlife supporter. Pat was preceded in death by her father, and husband Ralph. She is survived by her mother Dorothy Price, of Florida. She had no children. Pat leaves behind her expressions of deepest appreciation to the doctors and staff of the Ogden Regional Medical Center, for their loving care and understanding during her long illness. To her wide circle of treasured friends, both far and near, she sends her love and heartfelt gratitude for visits, phone calls, letters, kindnesses, and remembrances. She passed away in the arms of dedicated friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart. We love and miss you, Pat-Godspeed you on your journey to the waiting arms of Ralph, your best friend and soul mate. A memorial service was held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2002, at the Liberty L.D.S. Chapel in Eden, Utah. Funeral directors, Leavitt’s Mortuary.
