Announcements Sought As a community service, The OGDEN VALLEY NEws will print local birth, wedding, residents to send their announcements to: The OGDEN VALLEY NEws PO BOX 130 EDEN UT 84310 I read with interest Mayor Godfrey’s September 8 guest commentary in the Standard-Examiner “Ogden a ski company town.” The mayor’s visionary behavior seems exceptional in the world of politics. He is taking a political risk to improve the economic opportunities and lifestyle quality for Ogden and, more importantly, giving it a new purpose. I commend anyone for taking that type of a leadership role, especially in government service. I moved to Ogden Valley with my family as part of the “ski town” vision the mayor is promoting. I am a snow-ski and sportinggoods designer with a design studio in Eden. I was willing to leave my former wonderful location in “Ski Country USA” because of what is here and what opportunities I felt lay ahead. When I visited Ogden, I saw a city in an economic slump. m an outsider’s perspective, Ogden does not have a healthy appearance. But I recognized the qualities of residents | met, and understood what this town could be after hearing the mayor’s vision. It became obvious what could happen to Ogden. Without this factor, it would have been difficult for me to justify moving here. There are many others in the ski and sports industry who feel the same way I do. There is criticism for some of his plans, but I have yet to hear alternate solutions that hold promise of reward. We have a golden opportunity. We should seize it for our own benefit and our future generation’s benefit. Would M Bachtel care if our children had to pay for $70 lif tickets so he could look out his window at Earl’s Lodge at Snowbasin? Also, the buildings I saw were clearly not “yurts” as Mr. Bachtel would have us believe. The structures presented included a kitchen and bathroom amenities, decks, fireplaces, and immense gathering rooms and dining areas. In addition, Wolf Creek emphasized that they could be painted and decorated to blend in beautifully with any environment and landscape. olf Creek is to be commended for their vision of the new Wolf Mountain resort operation, and for keeping the spirit of inexpensive family fun as their main focus. I too was at the Ogden Valley — Commission meeting he referredto, and I watched the presentation given by wolf Creek regarding these proposed structures, and I wonder, did Mr. Bachtel somehow miss the part about the structures being temporary? Wolf Creek made it very clear that these structures would be et only until their new, state-of-the-art facility could be built over the next few years. 18Ccompliant commercial buildings cost millions of dollars to develop and build, and wolf Creek was clear that they wanted to keep Wolf Mountain items: Medical Assisting, X-Ray (Ltd.
