Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume VI, Issue XI Page 7 September 15, 2002 BALLOON FEST cont. from page 5 dred and twenty booths with food, arts and crafts, vendors and games. Food booths menu choices included Hawaiian, Greek, Polish, Korean and Native American items, along with the more traditional American hamburgers and pizza. Red Rock Ranch and Outfitters had chuck wagon dinners. The Vineyard had steaks and barbeque ribs and chicken. The Athenian provided VIP dinners for pilots and sponsors. A variety of rides were available for the young kids, as well as for the not-so-young kids. Party Time supplied all the games; slide, climbing wall, jousting and bungee run. Also featured this year were animal trainer Troy Hyde of Bozeman, Montana, and a group of honest-to-goodness mountain men. Hyde, whose animals have been featured in movies and still-life photography, gave demonstrations Saturday and Sunday with Cocoa the grizzly bear; Simba the cougar; and a wolf. About 83 classic cars were on display at the car show, where chrome and high gloss where the fare for the day. Larry Hegland ran the car show and had over 150 raffle gifts donated by Ogden Area businesses. A “goody bag” was given to everyone who entered the car show. Jack “The Sheriff” Harris and his Utah Posse with his nostalgic fuel dragster were on hand. Even though it costs him thousands to fire the dragster up, he wants to come back next year, providing the opportunity for others to feel what it is like. Next year’s car show will be limited to 125 cars. “People are already signing up for next year,” said coordinator Linda Gillespie. For the past eight years, Jeff Jordan has generously and efficiently volunteered his service for garbage control duty. Linda Gillespie stated, “Everyone on the committee was so grateful to see all their hard work pay off, and to see all these people having a great time. About 40 people participated in Fest’s First Fun Run. The course started and finished at the Eden Park. Proceeds from this year’s event will provide new equipment for local football and baseball programs. Proceeds from the parking lot provided funds for new uniforms for Snowcrest Junior High’s baseball team. Sponsors are needed for next year’s August 2003 event. Proceeds from sponsors go towards fireworks, fuel for the balloons, lodging for the pilots, and entertainment. If you would be interested in getting involved, or would like to volunteer at future events, contact Ogden Valley Sports and Recreation at 7456807. Again, thanks to all the sponsors, supporters, entertainers, food suppliers, balloonists, and the myriad of volunteers who made this year’s event a success. Thanks also goes to those who volunteered with the car show. “The volunteers were phenomenal,” said Linda Gillespie. “Without them, we could not have pulled off such a successful event.” Sponsors Gold Sponsor AT& T Broadband Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Ogden The Junction Magazine Silver Sponsors Friends of Eden Park Komatsu Equipment Co.
