Take Time this Fall to Enjoy the Pineview Trail If you’re feeling a little bit like I am this fall, you’re feeling like you didn’t do half of what you had planned to do. Where did the summer go? How could school be back in when it just got out? The 4th and the 24th whizzed by just a few days ago, and that couldn’t have been Labor Day we just celebrated. I hope as you think about activities for getting out in this great fall weather, before you blink and it’s winter again, that your plans will include a walk, jog, or bike ride on the Pineview nature trail. If you’ve already taken the chance to experience it, you know how lucky we are to have such quick access to miles of some of the most beautiful scenery in our Valley. The trail wel- Corrections In the September 1 issue of the OGDEN VALLEY NEWS, it was erroneously written in the article, “Bill Barber—Artist and sculptor” that Mr. Barber won the “. . . Grand Champion Silver Spurs from the Winnemucca Roundup Show that he attended last year.” The article should have read that he won the Grand Champion Silver Spurs from the Winnemucca Roundup Show the last year he attended. Inspirational Thought Keep trying . . . be believing . . . be happy . . . don’t get discouraged . . . things will work out! comes everyone, of every age and ability, with a fairly smooth, obstacle-free surface, and gentle inclines that provide an opportunity to see a lot of wildlife: birds, fox, an occasional moose or deer, and a lot of small, scurrying creatures. There is a huge flock of geese that has been gathering at the north end on the mud flats—that used to be lake, and there seems to be a larger number of fox this year. The trail can be walked from end to end in a couple of hours, and is easily accessed by parking at the north arm wildlife viewing area, or the windsurfers parking lot south of the port boat ramp. If that’s a little too far, you can walk half the distance by parking at the end of the dirt road north of the yacht club, then hiking the trail in either direction from this midway location. The weather is cooler, the foliage is thinner, and the water is down, making this a prime time to view the birds and animals that live around our lake. Take the opportunity to enjoy a few miles of “improved wilderness,” just a few minutes from home. anyone out below, or not acknowledged your efforts, I apologize. Tami Weller, Eden I urge Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey to reconsider his current policy on replacing police vehicles. Ogden’s equipment problems are well known in the local law enforcement community. I know for a fact that this is the main reason a number of experienced and qualified sheriff’s deputies have turned down job offers from the city. Ogden’s police cars are one of the most visible faces of the city. Ogden has received a great deal of criticism over the appearance of downtown, and the city has worked hard to try to find remedies for its appearance. How can business owners, being asked to spend money to fix up the appearance of their businesses, take the mayor seriously when he has the ability to easily fix the appearance and quality of the city’s vehicle fleet, and refuses to do so? Finally, the mayor is looking at the cost of updating the city’s fleet the wrong way. A quick analysis shows that savings are considerably less than $2,500 per year, per vehicle, by doubling the lifetime from five years to ten. The city’s poor equipment is hurting its recruitment efforts, putting an embarrassing face on the city, and not saving nearly as much as the mayor thinks. Thank You Area Businesses When the Ogden Valley Business Association (OVBA) was too late signing to rent booth space at the Eden Balloon and Arts Fest this year, Janice and Ray Yoak of Red Rock Ranch & Outfitters arranged for OVBA to share space with their chuck wagon. Thanks to them, the OVBA had a very successful booth, allowing for the distribution of information about Valley businesses to many visitors. This also made us realize that it is beneficial to group OVBA members together to profit from cross-promotion. We now have lots of ideas for improving OVBA’s presence next year. As representatives of Valley businesses, the OVBA hopes to be more involved with planning of the entire Fest in the future. The OVBA booth enjoyed plenty of traffic. Although, we did not have any goodies to draw people in, new member Velda Beckert and her partners Jeannie Cragun and Melanie Mark didn’t sit around Saturday afternoon. They stuffed our grab bags (with an OVBA sticker on the outside) with members’ pamphlets and coupons, and walked out into the crowd, giving them away. Even Janice’s daughter Amy helped with the distribution effort. Thanks to everyone.
