Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume VI, Issue XI Page 3 September 15, 2002 Guest Commentary In Order to Maintain a Tradition of Excellence, We Need Your Help Valley Elementary Secretary Maurine Stevens reviews administrative matters with the school's new principal-Roger Bailey--on the students' first day back at school. Bailey is a lifelong resident of Liberty, and states he is happy to be working with students at the school he attended for ten years while growing up in the Valley. Have you ever heard the halls of a school whisper? Tales of accomplishments, frustrations, pain, joy and love find the ears of any who pauses to ponder and listen. Valley’s walls speak of dreams, hopes, and desires (yes, names scratched in the basement walls still remain). Knowing that I will influence the realization of these dreams weighs heavily on my thoughts. I pledge my best in creating a positive and successful learning environment for all who walk the halls of Valley Elementary. Thank you for the opportunity of being part of your lives. This year will bring new faces and ideas. We appreciate those who have given so much to our school, and are now off on new adventures. We welcome Cheryl Borjstrom, Angel Truett, Kandice Longhurst, Heather Jorgensen, Jayna Frost, Emily Farr, and Michelle Tatton as new members of our staff. Their experience and enthusiasm will add to the tradition of excellence at Valley. The ever-changing nature of our individual lives is not too different from the dynamics of our school. Change happens! Gray hair, a bulging belly, and slowed reaction time remind me daily that we can not remain exactly as we are, or as we would like to be. Choosing to overlook, ignore, or wish away problems buries us in self pity, frustration, and resentment. We can, however, choose a path of growth and improvement. I appreciate the attitude of striving for excellence that is a tradition at Valley Elementary. In an effort to continue this, we need your help. This year will be a year of looking at what is working, and what we can improve. We will be asking students, parents, staff, and community to share their vision of Valley Elementary’s future. We need each of you to be involved in the growth process. Please call with ideas and suggestions or, better yet, visit us at the school. We need your talents and support. What future stories will the halls whisper? Each of us will have a part in creating these memories. Join us at Valley in bringing the dreams of our children to reality. Roger Bailey, Valley Elementary Principal Welcome to a Great New Year What a wonderful summer we have had! It has gone all too fast for our families, and probably yours too. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your students at Snowcrest, and the wonderful faculty there. We know that we have incredible youth who attend Snowcrest, and we feel that it is such a privilege to work with them this year! Our main focus of PTSO this year is going to be “Character Development.” As a board, we would like to help our students continue to develop a high self-worth for themselves. We would like to see our students continue to set and achieve high goals for themselves and, in return, they will be a positive influence in the lives of others. We have some outstanding activities and assemblies planned for this coming year. We would like to invite you to participate, or just come observe anytime during the year. A big thank you to all our volunteers! We could never accomplish all that we do without you. Thanks to all of those who helped out on registration day! We appreciate all of the time and effort that you give; it blesses each of our lives. Thanks a bunch!
