Browning Center for the Performing Arts, on Friday, November 29 at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 30 at 2:00 p.m. The Center is located at 3750 Harrison Boulevard in Ogden. Based upon the fairy tale by E.T.A. Hoffmann and set to the favorite score by Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker is a classic ballet in two acts. The story tells of a Christmas party at which little Clara, daughter of the house, receives the gift of a nutcracker from her mysterious uncle, Herr Drosselmeyer. After the party, she falls asleep and dreams of snow castles, sugarplums and her nutcracker, who has turned into a handsome prince. At Ballet West, the use of local dance students for the annual Nutcracker performances has become a holiday tradition. In 1968, 50 children auditioned for the ballet, and one cast was chosen to perform. This year, Rehearsal Mistress Bené Arnold anticipates that approximately 500 children from Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo and surrounding areas will audition for the coveted children’s roles, resulting in six casts of young dancers, totaling 340. Under the artistic direction of Terence Kern, the Utah Chamber Orchestra will accompany all Nutcracker performances in Salt Lake City and Ogden. Tickets are available at the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association’s Ticket Office located at 638 East 26th Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You may also order tickets using a credit card by calling (801) 399-9214.
