The Cap Rate- There are two to be concerned about: The life cap is the maximum amount the interest rate will ever be for the loan. The annual cap is the highest the interest rate can rise each year. After the UP-SP merger, the line became redundant, and Weber Pathways purchased the railroad corridor to save it for trail use, preserving 231 acres of wildlife habitat in the bargain. The trail was dedicated on June 1, 2002 as part of that year’s National Trails Day celebration. It is the second “Rails-to-Trails” conversion in the state of Utah. The first is in Park City. The Route From the trailhead, we walk south. For the next mile or so the trail follows a canal with its line of trees and bushes. Farm fields are to the right (east) and open space with bushes and scrub to the left. After the first mile, the trail turns west and follows this general direction until the end, about 2 % miles west of the Harold Crane Trailhead. A short way past the turn to the west, we cross a paved road. We take care here to look both ways before we cross. Along the way we pass through and close to farms and farm houses. We know to stay on the trail, as it’s private property on either side Past the road crossing and farms, we’re in open country with brush and grasses, marsh, wetlands, and some grazing fois, The ieee is covere Weber Pathways Rail Trailhead We see from the trail map (Pathways in Weber County, published by Weber Pathways) that it’s an easy trail with a gravel surface. Also, that there are two trailheads: the County Line Trailhead on the south side of 4000 North, and the Harold Crane Trailhead, on the northernmost end of 6700 West. We opt for the County Line Trailhead—it’s closer to Ogden Valley; plus the westernmost section of trail in the Harold Crane Bird Sanctuary is closed between March 1 and September | of each year to protect the bird nesting habitat. History of the Weber Pathways Rail Trail The Weber Pathways Rail Trail began its life as the Little Mountain Branch Railroad, built by the Union Pacific in 1971 to compete with the Southern Pacific hauling salt and The Highlands so it’s relatively dry even in wet weat fies This is the day after a rainstorm, so the skies are a clean blue with puffy white clouds. And out here in this flat, open country, the skies are huge! To the west we get a good view of the Promontory Mountains. At one point we look back to the east to a breath-taking panorama of the Wasatch Mountains and Ben Lomond! On this day, the tops of the Wasatch are covered with those white clouds. Every so often we can see the snow-covered ridges and peaks as the clouds break up. The views from here may be the best in the County! There are no long climbs or descents on this trail; just mile after mile of flat walking or riding with a good surface. This makes it a great choice for our first hike of the season.
