The grant is to be used for integrating interactive technology into the school’s curriculum. The grant funds will be used to enhance the Science EDventure Program submitted to the Foundation. This program will help the sixth grade class purchase needed equipment so they can pursue virtual reality experiences in their science education program. Best Buy launched the new te@ch program in October of 2003. It is designed to reward schools that creatively integrate interactive technology into their curricula. All accredited, public and private nonprofit elementary, middle, and secondary schools located within 25 miles of a Best Buy store were eligible to apply. Grants of $2,500 were awarded to nearly 1,200 schools to sustain or enhance existing educational programs. “Today, teachers across the country are using technology in new and creative ways; we want to support and recognize their efforts to make learning fun and easy,” said Susan Hoff, president of the Best Buy Children’s Foundation. “The te@ch program helps innovative educators enhance their curricula. By committing dollars to the communities in which we work and live, we can more fully support our employees, our customers, and their families.” Another Home Sold by Dick Payne & His Million Dollar Team Lot #14 Durfee Creek FREE Market Analysis at Your Home. Off and running in spite of rocky road for the 4th annual area marathon With the addition of the new Salt Lake Marathon, which will be held April 24, The Ogden Marathon is off and running well for its forth season. “Everyone believed that the Salt Lake Marathon would overshadow the Ogden Marathon”, said, Bryan Green, Ogden Marathon Race Director. The Salt Lake Marathon started with a $750,000 budget, which has now exceeded $1 million. The fear was that runners who would normally run the Ogden Event would switch their focus to try the new Salt Lake Event. However, Mayor Godfrey and the Ogden Race Committee decided to roll forward with the event, in sprite of the fact that the event has a formidable competitor in Salt Lake. The Ogden event has been moved to May 22 to provide a full month between the Salt Lake and Ogden events. This may prove to be the best move the marathon has made in the last four years. Weather has always been an issue for the Ogden Marathon. This year the move to later in the season may actually benefit the event more then expected. New Events and Changes: Last year, the Utah’s Spring Run Off added a new event called the Ogden Kids K. This year it will be known as the McDonalds Kids K. The event is a one (1) mile run/walk or roll from approximately 18th Street and Grant through the marathon finish line that will be at 25th and Grant. The Kids K is open to any potential Participant but is primarily organized for kids from 3-12 years old and their parents. Each child participant will receive a T-shirt and a finishers medal. Don’t miss this chance to give your child an experience they won’t soon forget. The Ogden Marathon has also found or been found by the GOAL (Greater Ogden Athletic Legacy) Foundation which is committed to help organize, support, and pro- mote sporting events in and around the Ogden Area. The GOAL volunteers will run all the Finish Line operations for the 2004 Ogden Marathon. Call for Volunteers: Many of our past runners have commented on volunteers and the great support from the community. Event staff encourages residents along the course to find a way to get involved. You may volunteer to help at an aid station or simply provide much needed encouragement to the runners along the course. In any case, don’t miss your chance to catch a glimpse of the race.
