Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 10 Volume X Issue I April 15, 2004 Area Youth Participate in Basketball Tournament On Saturday, March 27, 2004 the 2nd Annual Deacons Tournament was held in Ogden Valley in the Snowcrest Jr. High school gym. Many teams from across the Valley competed in an all day tournament. Following the tournament, the teams participated in a Slam dunk contest, a Free-throw contest, and a 3-point contest. An MVP was also named. Everyone had a great time and the participation and sportsmanship were outstanding! The 1st place win went to team members from the Liberty LDS 2nd Ward as follows: Travis Kennedy Swede Storey Josh J. Josh C. Drake Michael Starnes Mason Montana Shaum The 2nd place win went to the Liberty 1st Ward: Matt Dove Kyle Combe Chase Hart Jared Tidwell Jake Metcalf Third place, North Fork Ward: Jake Oberg David Rona Mike Belnap Craig Tidwell Logan Barnes Chase Hart Trevor Ingram The MVP for the Tournament went to Travis Kennedy. He also won the Slam Dunk Contest. Swede Story won the Freethrow and the 3-point contest A great time was had by all! Participant said they are already looking forward to next year’s tournament. AYSO Schedules Registration— Volunteers needed Registration for the AYSO fall 2004/spring 2005 season will be held the first week in May. There will be a Thursday evening registration during soccer games held at the LDS Stake Center park in Eden on May 6 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. You may also register at the Stake Center on Saturday, May 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Team pictures will also be taken on this date. New requirements from the National AYSO office allow for electronic registration. To register online, log on to <www.eayso.org> If you do not have Internet access, PLEASE make every effort to register your players on the above dates. Additional information will also be located on area banners and on flyers posted around the Valley. You may also call Jen Burrows at 745-4323. The Annual Major League Soccer Camp hosted every year by our Region will be held June 1 through June 4, 2004. Mark your calendars and look for flyers at the Valley Market, Maverick, Chevron, and Eden and Huntsville post offices. Deadline for sign up is May 21. Call Holly Beck for more information, 745-4617. We want every child to have a great soccer summer. Be safe, and remember sunscreen, mosquito repellant, and water! *********************************** REMEMBER AYSO SOCCER REGISTRATION! You may register through May 2004. Early Bird Fees for soccer season $37.00 if signed up on registration date. If signing up after dates listed, regular fee will be $45.00. Please plan to attend formal registration being held at the LDS Stake Center park at 6500 E. 1900 N., Eden. Registration is scheduled for: Thursday, May 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday is also Team Picture Day for those teams now playing. A High Valley Shootout meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday April 23 at the Ogden Valley Library at 6:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed for this event. Any interested parties are invited to attend. Space is available for individuals, families or groups. Basic size available is 4'x4' per free sign up. Sign up starts Saturday, April 24th between 10 am 2:00 pm. First to come gets the best spots. BUILD OR BUY A GARDEN BOX For those wanting to take a garden home, we will have garden boxes for sale that are already built, or everything you need to build your own, soil mix and/or all ingredients to make your own, and 4 cubic foot bags of vermiculite. Also, a big garden and carpentry tool sale. TAKE A CLASS Want to learn how to Square Foot Garden? Take a 3-hour class by the gardens on Saturday, April 24th from 9 am - 12 Noon.
