Show fot CLEAN CITY ELECTION WANTS THE GRAFTER eliminated FROM POLITICS congratulates the republicans on the stand they have already taken from saturdays standard judge henry H hai addressed communications to the chairmen of the political parties urging upon them the necessity of a clean campaign free from the evils 0 those mercenary enough to offer their votes for sale his open letter Is as follows hon E T chairman republican city committee ogdon utah aly dear sir fully realizing that the leaders of the political parties are equally desirous of preserving the pi lly of elections I 1 feel assured that the chairmen of the opposing la this campaign will cooperate in any measure that put an end to the election grafts of the past from aay observation I 1 have come to the conclusion tat t at there are only two causes which favor the existence of these pernicious conditions first the indiscriminate employment of workers by each individual candidate for the advancement of personal success this cause has been largely remedied by the announcement made by the publican republican re city committee questing their candidates to employ no individual workers if this request be accepted by the candidates and their friends in good faith I 1 have no doubt that it will seriously impair the profitable establishment of working mens clubs and other similar frauds created for election times only I 1 trust that the other city committees will make similar announcements the second canse favoring the w istance of election grafts consists in the assurance felt by men engaged in in the votes of american citizens that no one in particular will be sufficiently interested in the matter of securing facts enough to procure a legal conviction of these violators of law they feel secure in their standing in with so many men of all parties they are auctioneers of votes and are no re specters ol 01 persons they regularly visit all headquarter a and regard election times as their harvest and political parties and candidates as their prey they rely upon their experience that it Is embarrassing to candidates and their nervously anxious friends to vigorously orous ly resist the persistent otter of improper assistance in return tor valuable consideration all this and other conditions makes the business of buying and selling votes a profitable enterprise 1 I feel assured however that tha career of these degenerates who gladly exchange their acs for whisky would be cut very short it it was publicly thai all the political parties had joined in appointing some one or more persons who would make it their especial business to hunt down lecolon lec ilon crimes and relentless prosecute all violators 61 he election law 1 I therefore there foie offer the suggestion that the respective chairmen of the political committees in this city each appoint a particular person to detect and prosecute any violation of the election law in this campaign and for the purpose of giving this plan a fair trial and upon proper facts being presented an d no other person being found who is willing to do so I 1 hereby otter to become a complainant in all such cases and also oner to furnish the lessary nes sary means to defray the legitimate expenses not otherwise provided for connected with the prosecution of all election offenders 1 I have sent a similar letter to hon henry W of the democratic city committee and hon gant chairman of the socialists cia lists city committee hoping this plan will meet with your approval I 1 remain your verv HENRY H |
