Show TEXAN WINS TITLE IN HANDICAP SHOOT ATLANTIC CITY, Sept. 18. H- C Taylor of Tyboe Island, Ga., captured his first national trapshooting title Friday when he defeated a field of 4G1 of the best men and women gunners gun-ners in the country In the preliminary prelimi-nary handicap event of the Grand American trapshooting tournament. Taylor was tied bv Mark Arie of Champaign 111., veteran of many tournaments and winner of the Olympic Olym-pic individual champions!, p at Antwerp Ant-werp in 1920, with 97 breaks out of a possible 100, but defeated the western west-ern star after two plavoffs. Both broke 22 birds in tho first extra ptrlng of 26. but Taylor shattered 24 to Arlc's 2 3 in tho second The winner was handicapped at 16 yards, and advantage advan-tage of seven over Arle Eight others were tied for third place with scores of 95. including Frank M. Troeh, famous expert from Vancouver, Wash , and Mrs. E. L. King of Winona, Minn., winner of the woman's wo-man's national title on Wednesday Troeh was placed at tho 2.1-yard mark and Mrs. King at 22 yards. Phil Miller of Dallas. Tex., one of the outstanding stars uf the tournament, tourna-ment, shooting from tho 23-yard mark, broko his first 60 straight, but missed six of his last two strings and finished with 94. Six hundred entries have been filed for the handicap event, soheeiuieu us a feature of today's program. |
