Show WHITE SAGE FOR THE RANGE. Progress Is being made in the improving im-proving of tho grazing lands of the west, due to the experiments which have been made at the Great Basin experiment station at Ephralm. Utah. Natural reseedlng of depleted graz- Iing lands is found to take place under proper supervision and the grazing area is being improved by this method. Ogden, for a number of years, has been interested in the problem of restoring the white sage to the area on Promontory range In the early periods of the settlement of Utah, that region was a grazing district where large numbers of cattle and. horsee wintered. Over-grazing caused the destruction of the white sage. Experts on forage recognize white I sage to be a highly nutritious plant, on which livestock will winter and fatten, j A few years ago the forest service had planned to experiment iln tho restoration res-toration of the white sage, but there is no evidence of a campaign having been inaugurated. If much of the waste land of this state could be made to grow white sage, the livestock industry would be increased to much larger proportions. oo |
