C Nye, of the city street department the city board of commissioners com-missioners ast jnlght directed the auditor to draw a warrant in favor of the Merchant's Light & Power company for ?2,859.51 less $125 for PmltS l0 p,.nce Ples hi the streets arid for engineering work done by the city engineering department, for the liBhting of tho city on certain streets. This matter came before the city council immediately prior to tho change 01 government and tho account ac-count was held up, the last report of the committee having the matter in hand, however, being that the account ac-count should be paid. Tho commissioners commis-sioners have investigated tho situation situa-tion and have arrived at the conclusion conclus-ion that the account should be paid. Taylor, foreman, at a salary of $150 a month, Louis Lofgren, inspector, inspec-tor, at $110 a month and J. P. Jensen, inspector at ?75 per month. It has also been recommended by City Auditor William Van Dyko that Mrs. Florence O'Neill Stanford, be appointed deputy city auditor and that W. J. Hoyt be given the position of official bookkeeper in the auditor's office, the salaries to be fixed by ordinance or-dinance at $75 per month for the assistant auditor and $100 a month for the Bookkeeper. Take Care of Hoyt. Mrs, Stanford was tho former city auditor and Hoyt was taken from .the job of bookkeeper in the street department de-partment which was abandoned by the commissioners and given the snug place In the auditor's office. Mr. Hoyt was formerly purchasing agent Attorney Valentino Gideon was Instructed In-structed to prepare an ordinance covering cov-ering tho appointments. Respecting tho petitions for a bridge over the canal at Grant avenup and Thirty-fifth street and tho placing plac-ing of an electric arc light at the same place, Superintendent .t. C. Nye recommended that the petition be granted and it was so ordered. Superintendent Nyo concluded that there should be no lights at Canyon Road and Monroe avenue, and Twen-tv-second street and Polk avenue and the petitions were denied. The superintendent su-perintendent was of the opinion that it would bo too expensive at this time to Install these lights.
