Show DEATHS FROM HEART DISEASE. Heart disease ranks second only to tuberculosis of the lungs as the principal cause of death in 1909 among the gainfully employed male persons in the United States death registration area, which comprises over half of the estimated population of the country, according ac-cording to figures issued yesterday at Washington by the census office. The percentage of deaths caused by heart disease was 11.9, j being highest among men employed in domestic and personal service j during age periods from 25 to D4, but between the latter age and 64 j greater among men engaged in agricultural pursuits than in any j other of the five classes in which the occupations have been divided. |
