Howard Little, who murdered Mrs. Bessie Jus-tis, Jus-tis, her son-in-law, George Meadows, and his wife and three children In their home near Hurley, Buchanan county. . last September, was put to death by electrocution in the peniten tlary at dawn today. He held tho position of I'nited States marshal for the eastern district of Kentucky for a number of jcars. Except for his association with women he carried himself generally without reproach He was a sort ot rural "Don Juan," however, and he himself declared that "women would be his mln." It was while In the office of United States marshal that ho shot and killed George McKlnney In eastern Kentucky aid was sentenced lo a life term In the Kentucky penitentiary. He was pardoned after a short period and moved back to Virginia. There he became be-came foreman for a large lumber company at Hurley. While in this position po-sition ho lived with the family of George Meadows. Mrs Little and her children lled In the same house, Mrs. Little Is alleged to have been present when the murders were cominllted.but she was nof allowed to testify. It was alleged by the prosecution, and believed by the jury, that Little coming home one night, killed the three Meadows children and Mrs. Meadows w ith an axe and shot George Meadows as ho ran from the house. Next morning the Meadows home was found in ashes. Robbery was believed to be the motive for the crime. if was known that the famllv had kept a good deal of money ln the house and Little afterward appeared "flush " It Is believed he Intended to leave Virginia for good with his latest woman friend |
