Show Varsity Play Tells Story Of 1812 Wr "No Boots in Bed," comedy of the war of 1812 which won the Ettrage award in 1940, will be presented pre-sented at Utah State Agricultural college January 26, 27, and 28, Dr. Halbert Greaves, director announced an-nounced Tuesday. The Etterage Award for comedy come-dy was presented the play's author, au-thor, Ronald Mitchell, by the Dramatist's Alliance at Stanford university, with Lynn Fonntaine acting as chief judge, late in 1940. A performance of the play was directed di-rected by the author and presented present-ed at University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. last July and a few weeks later the Hillbam Theatre of San Mateo, California, performed per-formed it in connection with the Stanford Dramatists'. Alliance festival. Dr. Greaves saw the first per-' formance at Madison when he was at Wsconsin finishing work for his doctorate. He received permission permis-sion from the author to present the play at USAC under pre-puo-lication rights and the Logan performance per-formance will be the first since last summer. Rights to the play have since been purchased by the Samuel French publishing house. In a letter received recently by Dr. Greaves from the play's author, au-thor, Mitchell explans. "I was reading American history in the New York public library and the story of the 1814 raid amused me. "Having lived to Connecticut drived around the countryside, I know the locality and the atmosphere atmos-phere fairly well, so I decided to make my first full-length American Ameri-can play the one about the absurd raid up the Connecticut rver," Mitchell wrote. ' "No Boots in Bed" happens also ' to tie in with a series of comedies 1 1 am working on, all attempting-to attempting-to treat the war theme in satiric sat-iric fashion," he added. The play was started while Mitchell was living in New York in 1937 and was revised in 1939, when Mitchell Mitch-ell became affiliated with the University of Wisconsin dramatics faculty. |
