Show Esteemed Matron Of Smithf ield Died Tuesday Hundreds of friends and relatives gathered in the new Smithfield 1 Fourth ward chapel Friday afternoon, after-noon, to pay their last respects' to Mrs. C. J. Plowman. Bishop G. L. Rees was in charge. Zylphia Amelia Raymond Plowman, Plow-man, 73, a lifelong resident of Smithfield and wife of Bishop C. J. Plowman, died at the family home Tuesday at 11:40 a.m. after a lingering Illness. She was born in Smithfield on March 18, 1869, a daughter of Alonzo and Elizabeth Hillyard Raymond. On November 27, 1889 she was married to C. J. Plowman in the Logan temple. An active church worker, she had served in the presidency of the Smithfield Stake Relief Society, So-ciety, in the presidency of the Smithfield First ward Relief Society So-ciety as a counselor in the YLMIA organization. She taught a class in religion in Smithfield schools. She assisted her husband in his church work, while he served as bishop for 13 years and supported him for five years while he served on a foreign mission. Surviving are her husband of Smithfield, five sons and daughters E. Thomas Plowman and Mrs. Vera T. Roskelley of Smithfield, Mrs. Ada Walker of Mendon, Mrs. Rae Merrill of Richmond and Mrs. Leah Lillywhite of Arlington, Virginia; Vir-ginia; 13 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two brothers, Alma Raymond of Ogden and Heber J. Thompson of American Falls, Idaho. Burial, under direction of the Lindquist and Sons mortuary was in the Smithfield cemetery. |
