Show Page 8 Thursday, October 4, 1979 Candidate Statements Continued From I'iil Tina Lewis ' 1 ft, " ; o Park City is suffering from a bad case of lack of communication, inadequate leadership, unresponsiveness, unresponsive-ness, patch-up solutions to sticky problems and loss of identity. Meanwhile, streets are not clean, buildings are not properly inspected, roads are blocked, parks are not adequate and buses break down. Everyone knows what the problems are. During this campaign, the voters of Park City will hear them itemized again and again. And they'll hear about lots of solutions, too. All of the candidates, all of the present city council-men, council-men, all of the people of Park City realize that there are solutions to every problem, that there are ways to make things work. The trick is making it happen. Talking about it is easy but making it happen takes an enormous amount of time, skill, energy, ener-gy, persistence, commitment commit-ment and magic. I am running for city council because I believe that I can bring to the council the ability to get thigs done I am committed to spending " the time it takes to do the job right, i teei mat my involvement involve-ment with Park City community com-munity affairs during the past three years and the working relationship that I have developed with people from every segment of the city give me the insight, sensitivity and understanding understand-ing that the council so badly needs. I believe that the city council should act rather than react. They should anticipate problems and come up with solutions before it is too late. The council must listen and be responsible to individual citizen input and must act to solve the problems of the community. The council must keep the citizens informed in-formed and communicate more fully the nature and consequences of actions they take. The rights of Park City citizens must be protected and must have first priority in controlling growth. The city should provide the citizens with first class services. The city should establish a definite program of planned improvements based on citizen priorities , and be, surej.ht, the rsul ts are recognizable. The city should preserve open space and develop recreational facilities. They should finish each project they start. The city needs to realize the tremendous opportunity it has to encourage, sponsor and promote innovative, quality cultural events that can be enjoyed by everyone. The city needs to pay attention to its relationship with Summit County so that Park City is fairly represented repre-sented in county decisions. The city needs to deal with traffic and circulation problems prob-lems in an effective way. If it spends the money for a bus system, il should make sure that it works. Convenient, sale, off-road alternatives must be investigated including includ-ing a bike-walking path and a rail system to connect Park City's busy areas. The city must revise the land management code to meet the needs and wishes of the community and to establish es-tablish more specificity in the ordinances. The city must find ways to set up specific criteria to maintain the small town nature of Park City in terms of architecture, scale, mass, and open space. Clear, comprehensive rules combined com-bined with vigorous enforcement enforce-ment will create an atmosphere atmos-phere where irresponsible developers will not survive. The city must realize that its biggest asset is the diversity of its population and its greatest treasure is its historical heritage. I sincerely believe that Park City should accomplish all of this and much more The citizens of Park City deserve to have a city council that works for them in a responsive, innovative, efficient way. The city is in a position to make the most of great opportunities that will not come again. It is also in a position to accept responsibility responsi-bility for allowing things that we can never undo. I would like very much to serve all the citizens of Park City by focusing my energies on the city council. Working together we can look forward Jo the most excitingyearsjn Park City's history.
