We dont want lawmakers to think the appropriation will solve the problem of providing culinary w'ater to the lake, Cooke explains. It will take 8 million to create the water and sewage facilities needed at the south shore if the lake is to realize its potential He says 1.5 million as a tourist attraction. people visit the lake yearly. Matheson's request would provide funds to build a four-inc- h pipeline from Tooele County $5-$- to provide culinary w'ater supplied by the Stansbury Park Improvement District to marinas and tourist operations for ten years. Cooke says he supports the request, but hopes legislators will not rule out future allocations for water development at the lake. Presently, all water and sewrage is transported to and from the lake by truck, Cooke says. He believes adequate water systems at the lake would spark the development of concessions, parks and a hotel on the south shore. A request for $5 million from the state for development of water at the lake was supported by lawmakers, Cooke states, but was tabled so the state could retain a $5 million emergency drought reserve. Cities will need new building codes to remain eligible for federal funds A deluge of information pro- vided by special interest groups to the Utah Energy Conservation Code Advisory Committee has caused the committees July 1 deadline for code completion to slip by unnoticed. formed by state legislation to devise an The committee, energy-consciou- WSssS&ms s building code, was expected to complete research and compile its findings in a report by July 1. The code is to be distributed to Utah municipalities which must adopt an energy-relate- d building code by the first of the year to remain eligible for federal funding. After sitting on this committee, member John Mains says, it is easy to see how one can be led down the road to special interest very easily. McGrew runs government tests for insulation in space pro- grams, Mains explains. Some specifications for the code have been somewhat finalized, member Dr. Art Jones says.
