Show Millard Delta High School Fillmore fpfy Middle School New Student Body Presidency makes big plans ByAlizabeth Bassett DHS - As the school year winds down students make plans for trips to Lake Powell family vacations class parties and activity camps The new student body presidency is making some plars of its own Chad Losee will lead the student body next year His officers include Gloria Pedroza Caleb Chamberlain Mike Evans and Tiffaney Skeem “I would like to have better communication between the students and the administration The student council should be able to represent the school more in decisions and issues the school has But I can’t promise anything until Mr Noah okays it” said President Chad Losee Chad’s Idea is a new project that he hopes will happen next year Gloria Pedroza vice president hopes to continue traditions of the past “Service projects are our goal We need to have more service projects” “Since they wanted it that bad am sure they’ll do well” said freshman Kalae Rowley Baccalaureate what does mean to you? By Eric llintze DHS - Exhausted and fatigued the Delta Rabbits waterpolo teams lost close games against the Cedar High Redman in the championship games The boys lost and the girls Waking up bright and early the boys played their first game at 7:00 am against Bear River beating them Soon after they played Cedar at 900 but were " 'AAfteraquick lunch bteakfhey placed Bear River again and defeated them At 430 for the state title they played Cedar High for the second time that day After playing so many games in such short time the Rabbits played hard but were defeated taking second place The girls play ing the n ight before beat but lost to Cedar Canyon View Waking up early the next morning they crushed Bear River Moving on to the state championship game the girls played hard and gave a iant effort but lost to Cedar High also taking second place First team players are Sarah Preston and Steve Hamilton Second team players are Gina Lewis Julie Hahn Mike Stephenson and Nate York ATV Class to be held ATV Classes will be held throughout the summer for the Millard County area beginning in April All ATV rideis age 8 thru 15 must pass an OHV education course to legally operate an ATV Utah law requires that all riders between those ages have this training It is also required that all riders between 8 and 18 wear an approved helmet Riders under age 8 may not ride on any public lands roads or trails For information and to register for ATV classes contact Terry Scottom at or stop in at the Territorial Statchouse Museum at 50 W Capitol Ave Fillmore You must register prior to a class to be included regi'ler now! science students from the Fillmore Middle School traveled to Cedar City on March 27 to compete in the annual Southern Utah Regional Science Fair Many of the students did well with their project and recen ed awards for their efforts These include: American Meteorological Society Junior Division Award - Cade Hunter Junior Division Third Place Awards - Lara Jackson Jace Jensen Nictael Christiansen Denise Garcia Webb Whatcott Tammy Whatcott Heather Fullmer Tyson Niemann Brady Robins Mekynzie Giles Britney Shields Tyrel Beckstrand Justin Wall and Jaycie Bond DSE This past week at DSE we have been privileged to have Ms B J Buckley an at our school Ms Buckley has been here before several years ago We were all glad to see her return to share with us her love and excitement of words poems and art Ms Buckley lives in Montana and travels to schools all over the United States Each class had the opportunity of having B J come in and work with them on poetry and art She taught the process of writing poetry to the students helping them to use new and different words in their creations Some of the poetry that the classes did was as a whole class project some were individual B J helped the students learn that when creating poetry there are many ways of putting things together and that they can use each other as a resource for their own work The children also learned that they can really enjoy and love language that it can be fun and interesting and can help us to communicate our feelings to others B J also taught origami the Chinese paper folding art to the students B J said “In this era of focus on testing standards achievement student “progress" and “accountability" it has been wonderful to be in a school which is not only courageous enough to maintain the richness of its offerings to its students but w hose administrator and teachers realize that a love of language an excitement about the w ritten or spoken word is what prompts a students desire to become proficient at the tasks of writing and speaking" Students and teachers alike enjoyed having B J here at DSE for the week We all feel that the experience helped us increase our love language and the arts more Weed Day for FMS Students Eighth grade students from Fillmore Middle School traveled to Cove Fort on Tues to participate in the annual weed day there Sponsored jointly by the Forest May Service and BLM this day comes each spring in an effort to make a dent in the eradication of unwanted weeds in the Cove Fort area Science students with top grades are invited to go along and use their shovels to do some community service in this area Students are also treated to a delicious lunch served on the spot Teachers from the school who went along to supervise the group were Phil Blad and Robert Beckstrand Ricks College graduates Nearly 3000 students received diplomas from Ricks College during the school’s 12 graduation April 28 Ricks College recently named students to its 2001 winter semester honor roll Students finishing the semester with honors earned at least a 370 GPA and carried at least 14 credit hours according to Registrar Kevin Miyasaki Of the 2907 students were Jeremy R Comeau Economics Marisha Corey Health Science General Jeremiah A Stoddard In Fillmore Jered A Borup General Studies -
