-- Boat registration fees to provide new facilities New boat registration fees authorized by the General Session of the State Legislature will go to improve boating facilities in Utah The Legislature approved a $5 crease in the boat registration fee to $10 The fee had been $5 since 1959 The Parks and Recreation Board recently authorized the new fee to go into effect April 27 1987 It is estimated that the increased fee will generate approximately $200000 in this fiscal year for boating facilities Because the registration forms are printed in advance they do carry the fee Boat previous $5 registration owners however will be required to pay the $10 Although the registration fee is collected by the State Tax Commission the bulk of the fee goes directly to the Division of Parks and Recreation to upgrade and build new boating facilities The fees are also used to provide safety equipment search and rescue craft and training for boating safety patrol officers According to Ted Woolley Boating the Division of Program Coordinator Parks and Recreation the fees collected this fiscal year will go toward replacing courtesy docks on facilities at East Canyon Escalante Gunlock Millsite Hyrum Huntington Minersville Otter Creek Rockport Scofiedl Willard Bay and Yuba The Division also plans to refurbish an isting ramp at Scofield It doesn’t cost any more to insure early Call Rex Day or Mike Broderick at Day’s Insurance Agency Phone 864-221- Delta Ut 84624 HOI 2 DIHKOtin i 'j i i i "i i i -- r i i i t— r KANOSH Dathel Whitaker Ph a" Lula George was happily surprised during the past week when Reva Dorri-tand her two daughters Beth and Diane stopped in to see her They had made an early visit to the Kanosh Cemetery to decorate some family graves Willard and Dathel Whitaker have returned from a delightful trip to Sun Prairie WI near Madison where they were guests of their son Jim wife Sharon and four children Steven Marisa Lorelyn and Ashlee who each one helped to make their week’s stay most enjoyable Willard and Dathel left home on Monday May stopping in St John UT where they gathered some aunts and uncles together at the home of Aunt Faith so they could visit Those enjoying the time together were uncles Dick and Elmer Sagers aunts Faith Violet and cousin Arlene The Whitakers stayed overnight with their son Bishop Ray Whitaker wife Diane and family in Salt Lake City then were driven to the airport by Ray Tuesday morning where they boarded the United Airline wiih a 2 hour in Denver then on to stopover Madison WI where they were met by Jim And did Jim ever have a busy schedule planned for his parents! On Wed May 13 they attended the game at Milwaukee big baseball Stadium between the Brewers and Oakland A’s During the day they also were taken on a tour of the three domes (tropical desert and seasonal) which were beautiful Willard and Jim On Tuesday Dathel visited the Farm Show at Old World Wisconsin which included the Coepsill Schottler and Schulz Farms in the German area the Fossebrekke We’re ing Congratulations proud of you We send our love and sympathy to Oz Johnson and family in the death of his wife LaVell Oz has been a faithful and loving husband to take care of her all these years of her illness Mrs Wanda Bendixen was honored at a luncheon in Fillmore for her retirement as a cook at the Delta North Elementary School We hope she enjoys her retirement DELTA TOT TIME in5 The classes will pm The weather was beautiful throughout the wonderful trip Jim and family will be moving to Flolland in July HOLDEN Cherryl Wood m The : in the Norwegian area Rankinen and Ketola Farms in Finnish area and Pedersen House in Danish area It was very interesting While Jim was attending his Air Force meeting on Friday in Madison he dropped his parents off at the State Capital where they spent several hours viewing the sights in this beautiful building which included the Civil War Jim also showed them the displays University of Wisconsin Campus where the enrollment is around 44000 We always looked forward to our return to Sharon’s delicious homecooked meals On Sat all of the family enjoyed a trip to “The House on the Rock” where took several hours to tour and was “out of this world” Sunday’s Church meetings were Willard and Dathel very enjoyable were introduced to Mrs Andrews who are of Marian Stevens of Holden At 5 pm with Jim in his Air Force Univorm Willard Dathel and Sharon him to the accompanied Commissioning Ceremony for the ArNavy and Air Force where my graduates were commissioned Jim had bee the instructor for the fourteen United Stated Air Force It was very impressive and graduates Jim’s parents were very proud of his accomplishments On Monday Jim took his parents on a tour of the beautiful countryside where everything was so green and pretty The corn on the rolling hills and farm lands was just coming up They had dinner at the New Clarus Hotel which was constructed in 1853 and in 1965 converted to the authentic Swiss style restaurant The Whitakers were homeward bound on Tues May 19 on United with a 3 hour stopover in Chicago returning to Salt Lake around 3:30 2 ! 5 2 ! Mrs Murray Perkins of Whittier California stayed over the weekend with Mrs Riley Wood Mrs Archie Barben traveled to Logan on Monday with Mrs Gordon Barben and daughters Wendy and Holly They all visited with the Allan Thom family had dinner at the Utah State University visited with grandson Michael Barben did shopping and had a most beautiful drive up Logan Canyon They all returned home Wednesday The Barbens received word Wednesday of the death of a very good friend Mis Ruby “Fowels” Bendixen wife of Leon Bendixen of Half Way Oregon She was born and raised in Sutherland They have lived all of their married life in Oregon Our sympathy goes to the families of Ruby at this sad The Hinckley 2nd ward youth hosted a dinner for the widows and widowers jn the ward They presented a program and gave each person a gift box The boxes were wooden and were handmade by the youth Darlene and Sarah My daughters and I spent Mother’s Day weekend in Salt Lake at the home of Mary Shannon and Whitt Lovell It was nice not to have to cook dinner for a change Dwight and Karen Western of Provo also came to the dinner With two teenage daughters you know we spent a lot of time shopping My sister said she was going to get me the bumper sticker “A woman’s place is in the Mall!” Don’t you love it? Spending Mother’s Day at the home of Lowell and Esther Petersen were May Gene and Gerald Damron and son Gene and Edith Schlappi and son Jerry of West Valley City Also visiting were Jim and Bonnie Petersen Larsen of Mesa AZ They stopped in Fillmore to get Bonnie’s father Fay Walker so he could visit friends and relatives in Delta for a few days Some of the visitors at the Petersen home attended the horse races in Fillmore I remember going down to the race track the next day after the races We would find money everywhere It was just like a dream that children often have since in childhood money is not easy to come by although children nowadays seem to have more An allowance was unheard of then We would take our precious 25 cents and buy a strawberry malt at Swallow’s What a treat! Confectionary The Hinckley first ward had their annual ward campout in Oak City Canyon Young and old enjoyed campfire singing and all the fun things there are to do on a camping trip Jay and Geri Warner are visiting at the Walter Manis Home They came equipped with their own camper so they can have their home away from home Shawn Works underwent surgery for the removal of his tonsils He is improving rapidly He is the son of Marge Works Matthew Steele has returned to Wyoming after having spent several months here staying at the home of his sister Stephanie and Dee King Also visiting his mother Sharon Western and his grandparents Doyle and Lena Steele FILLMORE Angie Green Ethelyn Beauregard Parks of Salt Lake City came through Fillmore May 17 and stopped at my home leaving the Claudia Huff obituary I was sorry I missed her Ethelyn I sent Venice your greeting time Mr Deon and Laverne Gillen were in the Logan Mall Tuesday with their beautiful paintings and art work on display They are very talented people and can truly enjoy their retirement and senior years together with their hobbies Their home is in Oasis The Gillens will continue to have their work on display during the week along with many other artists from many places Our sympathy also goes out this week to Oswald Johnson of Sutherland after the death of his wife He has truLaVelle ly been a faithful caretaker has suffered for a long time and been in tender loving hands We now wish the best for Mr Johnson |
