Show Again Reelected To Presidency j Of Civic Clubs Frank G. Martines of Richfield was reelected president of the Associated As-sociated Civic Clubs -of Southern Utah Saturday at the annual meeting held in connection with the mid-winter racing meet at St. George. This wall be the third consecutive term for Mr. Mar-aines Mar-aines as head of the organization in addition to service as president at the inception of the association several years ago. His reelection at this time is seen as approval of his previous service. Mr. Martines' only opponent in the election was C. W. Love jr. of St. George, first vice-president, who was reelected to that office. Other officers elected included John Redd of Price as second vice-president vice-president and Ray E. Carr, reelected re-elected as secretary-treasurer. Mr. Redd was one of the original organizers or-ganizers of the Associated Civic clubs. The executive committee, which will handle all business matters not acted upon by the directors, will consist of the president, presi-dent, both yice-presidents, T. W. Jensen of Mt. Pleasant, a member of the last state legislature, and State Senator P. J. Fennell of Eureka. Eu-reka. In addition to the annual reports re-ports given by the chairmen of the various standing committees and their recommendations for next year, the directors voted to request re-quest the federal government to change its regulations governing W P A and other federal projects so that work may be available for those who have managed to stay off the relief rolls but are now in need of employment. The decision followed a heated discussion over the handling of federal relief funds. Alleged "red tape" methods were condemned by directors present and by I. E. Brockbank, president of the Provo chamber of commerce. According to the reports of a special committee, the Utah congressional con-gressional delegation and others will be requested to use their influence in-fluence in having federal projects changed so that persons who have not called for government relief, but who 'are in need of work, will be able to obtain it. In opening the business meeting, meet-ing, President Martines gave a review re-view of work carried on during the past year for the benefit of the new directors, many of whom were present for the first time. That individual members and counties contributing to the finances fi-nances of the association will receive re-ceive their money's worth was seen in the adoption of a resolution resolu-tion submitted by Walter G. Lunt of Cedar City, on behalf of the advertising and publicity committee, commit-tee, that 50 per cent of all funds received be placed in a separate fund to carry out a ten-point advertising ad-vertising program. The ten-point program, as outlined, out-lined, includes: Publication of a monthly paper to advise the members mem-bers of the club of its activities and desci-ibe the attractions of the territory; contest for school children chil-dren to bring out the advantages of each school district; road signs calling the attention of travelers to southern Utah; scenic displays to be placed in hotels, information bureaus and other places where they may be seen; publication of a small pamphlet; newspaper advertising; ad-vertising; regular press releases; distribution . of booklets now on hand; sale of stationery on which is printed a map of southern Utah; an attractive membership insignia. Alvin P. A W P A project will be sought to have the airport constructed and a committee from the club will assist the Garfield county commissioners to find means of meeting its part of the expense. A report of the finances of the civic group given by C. W. Love jr., St. George, chairman of the finance committee, showed them to be in good condition. At the request of the Salt Lake City chamber of commerce, the gTOup will cooperate with other bodies in Utah and western states in trying to get additional federal aid for forest road construction. Mr. Brockbank explained the necessity of having this done to keep the road s construction work in the forests up with the other highways. |
