Hyer of Fort Worth, Texasa, was today elected to succeed Earle W. Hodges as president of the International Association As-sociation of Lions Clubs. The election was the climax of Lions 15th Annual Convention vhich attracted over 5,000 delegates from all over the North American contingent contin-gent and over-seas. Mr. Hyer begins i his term of office with 2500 Lions , Clubs in the association and approximately approx-imately 100,000 members. Mr. Hyer has for some time ex-i ex-i pressed the thought that a service club should serve its community, state, and nation economically as well as socially. While he believes that service clubs have a distinct part to play in welfare and social 'work, it is his thought that such an international chain of business men's clubs should !be, and is powerful power-ful enough to have considerable influence in-fluence in economic problems. Mr. Hyer, having served in the World was as Captain of the 111th Trench Mortar Battery, :and being at the present time Post Commander of the Ft. Worth American Legion, one of the largest posts in the country, feels that any detrimental factor working against international economic, econ-omic, safety can, and should be, counteracted coun-teracted by sound and ethical business busi-ness practice. Julien C. Hyer is a lawyer and a statesman, having served one term in the Texas State Senate. At the present time Mr. Hyer is practicing law in Texas and is recognized as one of the foremost lawyers of the state. |
