Show BEAUTIFUL QUEEN, GIRL JOCKEY FEATURED AT ELY RACE MEET Miss Georgia Paxtor, 17-yea: old daughter of Mr. and Mrs R. L. Paxton of Ely, was elected Queen White Pine II to rule over the White Pine Race Meet, in a general regional election last week. Miss Paxton polled 38,460 votes out of a total of 154,710. She is a senior at White Pine High school, an honor student, and active in school organizations, music, and sports. She represented the area at the 1950 Girls' State. Another young lady to be featured at the Ely race meet, which begins Saturday, August 19th, is Wantha Davis of Red lands, Calif., a feminine jockey who once beat the famous Johnny Longdon at Agua Cali-ente. Cali-ente. Miss Davis will have sev eral horses at the Ely meet. One of the major entertain ments of the Intermountain West, the Ely meet will feature 250 top-notch thoroughbred., from seven states, including several sev-eral horses from the George Marshall Minersville string. Eight races are scheduled for each day, with pari-mutuel wagering. wag-ering. Races will be run Saturday Satur-day and Sunday, August 19 and 20, and again on August 26 and 27. The Nevada Fair of Indus try, August 26 and 27, will pre sent exhibits featuring "Oil in Nevada," as well as displays of mining, agriculture, homemak-ing, homemak-ing, hobbies and arts. There also will be a photographic salon, sa-lon, and entertainment of various vari-ous kinds. |
