Show FEASIBILITY OF NEW R. R. LINK STUDIED Seattle Engineer Would Build Line Across Southern Utah The following letter was recently received at the News office, and we pass it along to our readers for their perusal and comment. FRANK W. HARRIS Engineer 406 Marion Buliding Seattle, Wash. March 15, 1:130. li,r. Lee C. Brown, Milford, Utah. Dear Sir: ' ! The enclosed leaflet outlines a plan for constructing railroads in the West with government aid. I would like to have your opinion as to whether a direct line constructed construct-ed between Milford, Utah, and Fallon, Fal-lon, Nevada, would be practical. If this line were built the Austin, Eureka and Ely branch lines in Nevada Ne-vada would be extended south to connect con-nect with this line. The line between Fallon and Milford Mil-ford would cross several ranges and watersheds, but in a line of this sort that is not sufficient objection to building the line. ; My idea is then to extend the line east from Milford to the Escalante River and then up the San Juan and connect with the rails at Mancos, Colorado. Obviously, this ..' is a pioneering type of railroad going through a sparsely settled region but it is this kind of a railroad that my plan is designed to help. Yours very truly FRANK W. HARRIS. |
