Show Local Girl Loses Pilot-Husband In Crash of Plane World War II and its casualties were brought still closer to Milford Mil-ford this week when a United States army heavy bomber, with its crew of 10 aboard, crashed not far from its base at Walla Walla, Washington. Going to his death in the crash was Lieutenant Richard Rich-ard H. Reed, co-pilot of the ill-fated ill-fated craft and husband for a brief two weeks of Miss Theo Zabriskie, formerly of Milford. The bomber, with its crew took off frcm Walla Walla field for a routine flight early Thursday morning of last week. It was reported re-ported overdue Thursday night and a search ordered; but at noon Friday the craft was still missing. Since then there has been a complete com-plete blackout of news concerning this craft insofar as the daily press was concerned, though there was one flash from a California radio station, telling of the apparent ap-parent instant death of all aboard. In the meantime, another army plane with eight aboard, which was lost in the vicinity of Loon lake, Idaho on a flight from Tono-pah, Tono-pah, Nevada to Boise, Idaho, was covered rather minutely, leading to more or less confusion. All of the men aboard this plane were reported safe, however, except for slight injuries, exposure and hunger, hun-ger, having been marooned in the Idaho wilderness for 16 days. Other members of the crew in Lieutenant Reed's plane were as follows: Lieutenant John T. Ray, Klamath Falls, Ore.; Lieutenant David T. Dunning, Madisonville, Ky., Lieutenant Hans N. Lehne, Glen Ellyn, 111.; Technical Sergeant Ser-geant Alexander Dec, Buffalo, N. Y., and Staff Sergeant Lloyd L. Ball, Huntington Park, Cal.; Milton Mil-ton D. Johnson, Midland, Texas; C. W. Seifer jr., Sari Jose, Cal.; Joseph F. Perkins, Fort Worth, Texas, and Wilmer C. Frankhavel, Barnesville, Minn. Group services for the ten unfortunate un-fortunate men were to be held this week-end at Walla Walla, following fol-lowing which the bodies will be shipped to their various homes. Mrs. Reed, Who was making her home in Walla Wblla since their marriage January 28, will accompany ac-company the body of her husband to Ganesville, Ohio, the family home, where interment will take place this coming week. Her father, fa-ther, S. . A. Zabriskie, left for Walla Walla Wednesday, to be with Mrs. Reed as soon as she sent word of the tragedy. |
