Show Gala Day At Lewiston. Lewistou, June 4 The old folks' day was a 'memorable event in the history of Lew.s-ton. Lew.s-ton. The old folks commenced rolling roll-ing into the Stake Tabernacle at Lewiston from all quarters at 10 a. m. and at 11 the vast assemblage assem-blage was called to order by the stake chairman, Geo. L. Farrell, and members of the Lewiston and Smithfield choirs sang a hymn after which Prest. Alma Merrill offered the opening j prayer. - I j Prest. Wm. H. Lewis made a I short aed spicy speech of welcome wel-come to all present, young and j old, and addressed the young people to do their utmost to make all the old folks feel ' at home, and that they were surrounded sur-rounded by a' host of willing! hands who had come together for the express purpose of making mak-ing them happy. He eulogized the oid people for the grand and great work they nad accomplished accom-plished in establishing our feet in these peaceful valleys under such great and manifold difficulties, difficul-ties, while nursing us, that we know nothing about only as they relate them to us. Therefore There-fore let us now take particular pains to make their last days their best days, and show to them ourjheartfeit appreciation for all they have done for us while we were comparatively helpless. ; The words of Prest. Farrell is certainly,the right man in the right place, for he seemed to be in every spot where he was needed need-ed and just at the right time, and J everything moved off like a I j cnarm. j A splendid program wasrend-j wasrend-j ered in the forenoon, which was ; appreciated, applauded and encored en-cored by all present. At 12.30 over 400 persons sat down to a sumptious meal of ail the dainties of the earth, after which the programme was concluded, con-cluded, and at 5.30 p. m. the exercises ex-ercises closed with very appropriate approp-riate speeches from Stake Presidents Pres-idents VV. H. Lewis and Alma Merrill, Stake Chairman Q. L. Farrell pronounced the benediction. Thus ended one of the most gala days for the old folks of the Benson stake of Zion. |
