Guy' Thatcher Thatch-er have returned from New York and report a most enjoyable enjoy-able trip. They installed Mrs. Luna Thatcher and daughters at the Metropolis and went on to Boston a few days before returning. re-turning. Mr. Thatcher states that Mrs. Sloan has been accepted as a pupil by Joseffy, the great musician, mu-sician, being one out of several hundred to obtain that coveted honor. Misses Thatcher, and Spencer are also studying under the direction of master teachers, and ah will undoubtedly achieve wide distinction in the musical Bishop Thomas X. Smith and Counselors Thomas Morgan and Gustave Thomasson were the guests of honor at a very pleasant pleas-ant surprise party Tuesday evening. even-ing. Mrs. A Miner gave a most enjoyable en-joyable party Saturday evening, it being the 47ch anniversary- of her marriage. , The guests were Mesdames Needham. Earl, McAllister, Mc-Allister, Affleck, Mitchell, Philips, Phil-ips, Shepard, Thompson and Miss Mitchell. . . to tuem and all were touched with the evidence of the good will of all the people. Councilman E. W. Robinson i acted as master of ceremonies and introduced Elder Joseph Newbold, who in a feeling speech presented Bishop Smith and Counselor Morgan each with handsome rocking chairs and Counselor Thomassen with a valuable gold watch. The gentlemen gen-tlemen responded in a manner that proved they were deeply appreciative of the fine tokens of esteem from the people of the ward, A hearty repast was partaken of during the evening. Addresses were made by president pres-ident Joseph Morrell. Counsel- crs Isaac Smith and W. W. Maughan, Elders Andreas Peterson Peter-son and C. B. Robbins, all of whom spoke of the long and capable service of Bishop dmitn and his counselors, and of the great reward they had earned through their faithfulness, honesty, and devotion to the many duties devolving upon them Especially did they'eulogise the work of Bishop Smith, who had been monitor, - counselor and friend to his people for more than a generation. Beautiful selections were rendered ren-dered b r Mrs. Hale, Miss Jacob-son, Jacob-son, Liss Minnie Peterson and others, and the affair was in every way a memorable one in the history of the ward. - . - f , ; Counselor. Thomasson will leave in the near future for j Sweden to fill a mission, and his tunny friends hope he may have a pleasant and profitable experience. ' George W. Thatcher spent a portion of the week in Salt Lake. A farewell party was held at the residence of Congressman and Mrs. Joseph Howell Wednesday Wednes-day evening, and the people of Wellsville presented them with a handsome silver set. The party was a memorable one, the old time friends of the Congressman and his wife bidding them farewell fare-well with deep regret. Th1 marriage of J. Harry Brown and Miss Laura Larsen took jiir.ce this week. The cuu-j p!e are popular and begin their j married life auspiciously. Best I wishe;- Mr. Joel Nibley is home from Stanford university, California, for the summer, and reports a gratifying season at that great institution. Mr. Nibley is in good health,, and glad to be among his Logan friends again. Mr. George Percival has reached Logan from the east and will take the position of Assistant Cashier of the First National bank. The gentleman resided here some years ago ; and is highly esteemed. j Robert Fairbanks is visiting relatives in the east. Mr. and Mrs. Thaddeus Nay-lor Nay-lor have taken up their residence resi-dence at the E. F. Amussea home on M in street and Mrs. Naylor is already highly popular popu-lar in social circles. Prof. W. H. Apperleyleft for San Francisco Wednesday to join his family and will spend the summer on the coast. Dr. Isaac P. Stewart, has returned re-turned from San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney O. Stevens Stev-ens have returned from a pleasant pleas-ant visit with relatives in Og-den. Og-den. Genial Will G, Farrell was a visitor from : Salt Lake' this week. Prof. H. Hill gave a pleasant farewell party at the Lincoln Saturday evening, the guests being Messrs. Burcbell, Lang. !ton, G.-F. Thatcher, Thompson, Walters, Shepherd,. Captain Wooley, U. S. A..
