Show Too Much Metal. Ezra Hansen, the young man who was so painfully injured by the bursting of a gun, is progressing very favorably and will soon be convalescent. A most wonderful thing is the preservation of his eyesight. In addition to the injuries to his organ of vision, mentioned last week, a few days since Doctor Ormsby found something, if not more serious in its effects, certainly more peculiar. After the inflammation had been partially reduced, the surgeon discovered a black substance of foreign nature in Hansen's eye. It was touched with an instrument and found to be metal. Doctor Ormsby secured the end of it and by working carefully withdrew it, when it was found to be a half inch screw. It had been embedded entirely in the parts surrounding the eye while the head was covering and touching the retina of that member. Strange to say the sight has not been injured in the least. A piece of metal one inch in length and about one third of an inch in width bent into the shape of U, was also taken from Hansen's under lip, where it had remained concealed for nearly ten days. It is barely possible, that, as young Hansen continues to progress toward recovery, the stock, barrel, lock and other parts of the gun may be found hidden some where about his head and face. |
