Police officers knocked on doors on the north side of the city presenting a copy of the citys ordinance to residents who were yiolating the code. Twenty-nin- e residents were contacted and only three have not yet taken action, said Searle. He recommended the council hold off taking any court action until he could work with those people still in violation, Mayor Norm Sant told Searle he appreciates the attitude the officers have taken and feel their efforts had been conducted well. Residents on the south side of the city violating the ordinance will be contacted soon. In other business, council members discussed refusing business licenses if businesses do not list a sales tax number on the license I application. Sant told the council the citys application requires either a sales tax number or a contractors number. He said in the past the city had no way of checking if businesses had paid sales tax but now have a way of checking. How far do I go? Am I obligated to deny a license? Sant said. He said he doesnt want to tie up the citys office but wants to make the sure the intent of the law is followed. Sant said he wanted to bring up the matter so the city could decide what to do. The council and city attorney will look into the matter and report at the next council meeting, i Roy Sidewalks Need Funding; Grant Asked Top priorty in Roy Citys application for Community Block Development Grants will be construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters to protect the safety of children walking to Country View Schools and Midland Elementary Schools.
