Scott In 1981, a group of Roy resi- Mathc-so- n, Mathe-so- n, snips the ribbon officially opening the Hillside Senior Ccn-te- r in Roy on Wednesday, Nov. 30, it will represent more than the opening of a building. It also represents the realization of a dents met with Kenneth shaw, director of Brad- the Department of Aging for Weber County, who encouraged establishment of a senior citizens program in Roy. Dae Coons, a Roy resident, headed a committee that led to the formation of ihe Roy Association of Senior Adults (RASA). The Roy Recreation Complex was designated as a county sponsored nutrition site and became a temporary home for area senior citizens. Located on the ground floor of the new minicipal center, the Hillside Senior Center is 9,500 square feet. Included are a fully equipped kitchen, a large multi- purpose area, and separate rooms for a variety of uses in- eluding shuffleboard, ceramics dining area. Roy resident Velma Saunders, treasurer of RASA, was a key fund raiser in the drive to raise money for furnish- ing the center along with RASA President Chauncey Daily and other organization members. Dedication ceremonies begin with an open house at the center from 10 a.,m. to 3 p.m. on wing. The Weber County Senior zens Nutrition Cm- - Program equipped the kitchen and pro- vided tables and chairs in the Wednesday, Nov. 30. Mrs. Ma theson will speak at 11 a.m.'; ofTi- along with county and state cials involved in programs for senior citizens.
