Region One Volleyball Race Predicted to be a Tight One KENT SOMERS ' - Review Sports Editor If any of the Region One vol- leyball teams can survive after beating on each other in the next few months, one of them may have a great shot at winning the state title. Region One coaches believe, and the facts bare them out, that the region is the toughest in the state. The proof is right there in the record book. You can look it up. ' . Four teams from the region entered last years state tourna- -' ment. Two of the teams, Roy and Weber, played for the state championship while the other, Bonneville, took third place. If thats not power, then Nike is just the last name of a guy who lives in Tokyo. Coaches are again predicting the region to be close with Weber, Roy, Clearfield, Bonneville and Box Elder battling for the playoff spots. Layton has a a team good young team to surprise other squads. enough especially in volleyball where momentum can run like a unleashed mustang. Its a tough league, said Clearfield High Coach Margo Jones. Volleyball is such a momentum game. Ive seen more strange things happen than in any other sports. The following is a preview of the three local teams, Clearfield, Roy and Layton, who will play in Region One and Davis, which competes in Region Four. Excuse MarCLEARFIELD go Jones for her optimism about the 1983 Falcon volleyball team. Jones returns four starters from last years youthful team, practices and games have gone well. We feel like weve made a lot of progress real fast in scary. Jones said Clearfield played to the talents of its opponents performing well against good teams and badly against poor teams. But four returning starters can do wonders in curing consistency problems. Corrie Vigil, Man-d- y tice game was playing consistent- -' ly good volleyball. We need to develop a consistency, she said.
