Show Lancers Football Schedule Watsfo Out Region-1- ! Hamers Play Af IFatsy By BOB BEDORE Review Correspondent Layton Highs Lancers will be the underdogs 2 the season, but that doesnt stop the team from wanting the state championship and looking forward to the upcoming campaign. The Lancers annually have trouble losing key players and this year it looks a little more difficult to tap out another star or two from Laytons well. But who knows what will happen. Defensively the Lancers look as though they will be tough to score against. Even though the team is not yet fully picked, the Layton Bunch will have some good weight and speed on its side. Nothing new will be added to the defensive strategies as the old has done the job nicely in the past. Layton has had a tradition of being a blood and guts running team, always having a strong armed backfield coupled with a quarterback. This years should be no different even though Coach Gary Hansen would like to see more balance. Once again, the pressure should fall on the Lancer running backs to of 81-8- provide the points. The schedule for Layton looks pretty good with the heavy problems coming up in the second half. Hansen feels the schedule should be fairly balanced throughout, however. And what about the coach of the Lancers? If you asked the team theyll tell you that he seems to have mellowed out. This doesnt mean he doesnt work the team as hard, he is actually working them harder to get ready. What it does mean is that he takes more time with his players and that he will be spending more time in skull sessions than before. If you ask Coach Hansen about himself, hell say that hes not changed, hes just getting a little older. But changed or not, Hansens ability to get stars from the average player lineup is well founded in this area. What is really going to help the teams chances is that it is more unified and contains more team spirit than in the past. Keeping together as a team will definitely give Layton an advantage over the others. Also helping will be the fact that the team is more in shape than in recent years. 766-412- -- i n lass. iis; On all windshields and sliding back truck windows. But for Layton High School senior Alan Overmoe, keeping up grades and playing football will only take up part of his very busy schedule. Overmoe will also be Layton Highs Student Body President, a position that Alan is more than qualified for and a position that is just another facet of his busy slate. Overmoe has represented Layton in various other areas as well. His sophomore year he had the lead in one of the schools musical plays. His junior year he played football, was active in debate, was on the Junior Committee and went to Boys State. Alan sees no immediate troubles with his many activities, but he does admit that homework could become a problem.
