Show WttKLY HfcTLEX OAViS NtWS JOURNAL, NOVbMttfcH 2, IVti Braves Set For State Playoff By DAVE WIGHAM their snood loss wirks - The WOODS CROSS Wildcat football learn set a few riew school records with their performance this season but they failed In their effort -- By DAVE WK.HAM BOUNTIFUL clubs faded. By DAVE UTGHAM Now that the dust has settled on the football fields its time again to look back and try to figure out some sanity in this past football season involving local high schools. RI.GION One turned into a , three team league, with Bonneville and Bountiful heating everyone they should have, and dropping some they shouldnt have. Hoy won enough to get by with to the state playoffs but the Royals didn't live up to their buildup. Lay-ton- VIEWMONT, Clearfield and Weber each won a couple of games in league play, against each other, while the Sky View club was again in the cellar when it was all ogan, Davis, L straight and the game to Logan, all they warned last losing Ihe week. Despite game Ihe Wildcats got a lot of from Cache Valley. SO ONCE again high school rosft fonihull provided us with some great moments, some we expecled, others we didn't. It's still the best entertainment in town. ri For Boun- tiful football fans there is good news this week und Ben Lomond and Woods Cross started out on fire. Logan still has tin fire going. DAVIS HAS lost two in a row und now find themselves in an unfamiliar role of having a playoff to get to state. Ben .omund kept the ashes burning long enough to get into the tournament. Woods Cross lost three over. But even the Bobcats put a few scares In the likes of Bountiful and Weber before losing the games. AS PREDICTED by some experts, this one included, no - "(Bid. there is bad news. First the good news is that the Braves hoxied llilkrest in a playoff ihis past Tuesday. The bad news is that if they won, und they should have, they then face West in the stale quarterfinals. NOT THAT West is unbeatable, in fact they lost last week, but mi one likes io draw the leuin Hint has been ranked number one all year in the ojienu'g immd. Bountiful has a history of facing the eventual Mate champion, like Skyline a year ago, in the (mi ly going. THE FACT that West lost would indicate to some that they would he madder this ? Bonneville. In the games that weren't supposed to be, the Bonneville win over Bountiful came as a surprise to many. Roy over I.ayton was a big shocker. And then finally Clearfield beating the Royars last week was a surprise to some. LAYTON WINS the league by virtue of the win over the Lakers but the Lancers had tough games with Viewmont, Weber and Bonneville. Boun- tiful had trouble with Sky View. The mystery team of the year goes to Roy, you try to explain how a team can beat Layton High yet lose to Clearfield, Bountiful and Bonneville. HEARTBREAK awards go to Viewmont and Clearfield, both lost close games they could have won and both could have won a playoff berth with those wins.
