Dr. Brian Bum Are You Walking On A Pit Full of Straw? A woman recently wrote, What is dizziness? Every time I tell my husband I'm dizzy, he asks me to describe it. I find I cant, can you? This is a challenge we've submitted to the Chiropractic Care Center. "Dizziness may be described many ways and the manifestations vary with the cause. Weve heard the term used to describe a feeling, lightheadedness, faintness, giddiness, weakness, hazy vision, confusion. Others may be more articulate, and their descriptions may be that it's like walking on a pit full of straw, going down an elevator, Something in front of my eyes, or I feel uneasy. We might try to describe true vertigo by saying the sensation resembles the dizziness we developed as children by rolling downhill or by turning around and around in a standing position. The world turned about when the eves were open, but when we closed them we would whirl about in space like an astronaut. Dizziness ia a symptom, and the manner which an individual experiences it is important to the doctors diagnosis. For instance, the childish sensation described above is a type of vertigo that stems from a disturbance of the center of equilibrium in the ear or brain. A person with high blood pressure is more likely to complain of You can also help the doctor by telling him when the dizziness occurs. An example, notes Dr. Burns is the oldster who almost falls when he gets out of bed or stands up too quickly. He could well have a circulatory problem. Of course, says Dr. Burns, the most meaningful thing about dizziness is that it is a symptom, and should not be ignored. Recently I had a patient who complained of dizziness whenever he turned his head to the side or upwards. Examination revealed that he was suffering from an arthritic spine. Needless to say, had it not been for his dizziness, he would not have sought treatment for a very serious and ' often eventually crippling problem." Early treatment of any problem increases your chances of solving the problem. . . dont ignore the symptoms.
