Parker To Retire After 40 Years In Teaching By SANDRA LEWIS . Frank Parker, teacher at Davis High School, will be honored at a reception to be held Wednesday, May 16, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Home Economics Lounge. Students and friends are invited. his students, promoted Davis and music receiving superior ratings at festivals and presenting musical produc-- . tions including Oklahoma,' The King and I, Music Hello Man, Dolly, Oliver, and South Pacific. HE MR. PARKER, Davis High choral director for fifteen years and teacher of English, will retire at the end of the school year after a forty-yea- r teaching career. Mr. Parker joined Davis' High Schools music department, where he, along with HA Sound of Music, gill his bachelors and masters degrees at Utah State University in Logan. His collegiate activity in band, RECEIVED fftficeF: 0 Kaysville i Mrs. Sarah Giles spent Thursday in Taylorsville with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Giles where they all attended a special ceremony at the grade school where all the first graders who had read over 100 books were awarded a certificate by FRANK R. PARSER receiving the award. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Wilson and family recently met in southern Utah for a family gathering. Others attending were her parents of Brigham City and her sister from Grand Junction, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Morgan, Mrs. Maude Jones, Mrs. Fern Jones and Mrs. Norma Ostergaard all attended the funeral service of Joseph D. Record, son of Joseph and Ann Roos Record at Kearns on Saturday. n He was the of Mrs. Maud Jones and the grandson of Janet Jones Ross formerly of Kaysville. Terry Barber returned by plane from North Carolina where he spent 10 days at- the music department at Davis High. MR. PARKER has not only adjudicated music and drill team competitions in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada, but he has maintained a fishing hobby in his spare time. He hopes to expand this hobby, spending more time with his wife, Ore-tat their Bear Lake cabin. He also plans to do some traveling. a, RICHARD COOK - FARMINGTON The Davis Education Association has elected a Viewmont High School counselor as its president elect while a Central Davis Jr. High School teacher prepares to head the organization in June. RICHARD COOK was elect- ed to head the 1,500 member group of Davis County School District personnel for the 1980-8year, beginning at the end of the next school year. Taking over the reins the beginning of next month will be Mary Leatham, who was elected last year as president-elec- t and has served one year in that training capacity. Stepping down as president will be David Van Langeveld of Salt Lake City. LEATHAM has taught in the Davis District for 14 years with two years at Kaysville Jr. High and 12 at Central Davis where she now teaches drama, reading and language arts. Looking to her new duties she outlined several goals. 1 have already started working on member involvement and input. I feel we have fallen down some in that area ana i want better internal and external communication. I want to help the teachers image. MRS. I WILL also continue to work with the administrators and am proud oftheir participation.
