Show SUSC golf finished until spring schedule " cedar ' city " Golfers from Southern Utah State College won't be back in action until the spring portion of their schedule begins. "We've had a good full season," Coach Tom Kingsford said. "We've learned some things about the squad that should help us this spring when we start competition com-petition again." The squad is young. With the exception of senior Doug Lee (Boulder City, Nev.) and junior Ken Mason (South Gate, Calif.), all members are freshmen and sophomores. "I'm quite excited about the potential of the squad," Kingsford said. "If w we can consistently shoot as well as we have on occasions, we will -. certainly be a prime i contender for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title. We've met some awfully good competition this fall, but that should help us in the long run." In its final two meets of the year, the SUSC squad competed in the Wayne P. Farrell Invitational hosted by Weber State College and in the Ev Thorpe Invitational hosted by Utah State University. The f-Birds finished seventh, seven strokes behind Idaho State at the Ogden tournament. Stuart Adams (sophomore, Vacaville, Calif.) shot a 54-hole 237 to lead the SUSC finishers. Other T-Bird scores included Richard Laihsophomore, Granger) 238, Jerry Ellefsen (freshman. Salt !iL'lL ' i 1 ' '.vi.-. ' Lake City) 247, Lee 250, Ryan Job (freshman, Kearns) 255 and Mason 267. As a team, SUSC totaled 1,222 strokes to finish behind Brigham Young University (1,089), Weber State (1,099), University of Utah (1,132), Boise State (1,180), UtahState (1,183) and Idaho State (1,215). At the chilly Ev Thorpe I tournament last week, SUSC was led by Adams again as the 'Birds had their finest team effort of the fall with a 1,129 total. - Adams shot a 223. He was followed by Mason (229), Job (230), Lail (232), Lee (233) and Ellefsen (235). BYU and Weber State again finished one-two. Then came University of Utah, Utah State, Idaho State, Boise State and SUSC. i--i----i i i |
