Last year, Red Cross volunteers, like Bill, responded to over 40,000 disaster situations requiring on-the-scene assistance. More than 136,000 families were helped. "Fortunately, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes don't happen every day but fires do," warns Bill. "And for a burned-out family that's a major disaster. We can help these people obtain the things they'll need to resume normal living."
