Show ; ANACONDA. United Irish Societies Hold Their Anuual Outing. (Correspondence Intermountain Catholic.) Anaconda, Mont.. July 16. The Cnit-ed Cnit-ed Irish Societies of Silver Bow county held their annual outing yesterday, and the affair was a pronounced success. suc-cess. The celebration was at Mountain 1 View Park. Hundreds of Irishmen, I their families, sweethearts and friends were in attendance, and the occasion will long be remembered. Many came from Butte and surrounding towns. The vast throng was good natured and there was not a single unpleasant incident in-cident to mar the day's Pleasure. To j be sure, somebody had to upset a boat J on the Jake and dump somebody out, i but those things are to be expected at t a big picnic, and the victims of the ducking took the laughter from the i crowd that lined the bank in good j pp.'-t. Much of the day was taken up with i the shorts and athletic pastimes, j Many of the events were not pulled off ; owing to the lateness of the hour. Tho running, jumping, hurdle, pole vaulting, vault-ing, shot putting and other numbers were divided among three men. G. Pas- i tana won eight of the prizes; J. T. O'Brien six, and J. Levesy two. Owing J to the confus'on which existed a correct cor-rect list of the winners of prizes cou'd J not be furnished by those who had the matter in charge. The following is a partial summary of the more important import-ant events and their winners: Gaelic football came between the Irish-American and Wolfe Tone clubs; f50 cash. I Most popular member of A. O. H. ! First prize, camera, won by J. R. Mur-I Mur-I phy of Butte. -Much of the success of the picnic is j due to ,the untiring , work of. J. T. O'Brien, whom Anaconda knows as "Tommy" O'Brien, and Tim Crowley. These gentlemen labored indefatigably and it is due to their incessant efforts that so many of the sports announced on the long list were successfully pulled off. The length of time required by the baseball and football games was, in a measure, re.--tonsib!e for the committee's commit-tee's inability to carry out the entire programme. Hie laseball game between the Butte court house nine and the Anaconda Catholic club team was won by the Butte boys bv a score of 6 to 5. Only seven innings were played, as the Gaelic Gae-lic footbai! teams wanted the field. It was a most interesting game from start to finish, and was marked by a number num-ber of exceedingly clever plays- on both sides. Mike McDonough pitched for Butte and Jack Hughes was in the hex for Anaconda. Boih did splendid work. Seven hits is the sum total made i off McDonough, and .'ix are charged against Hughes. Butte made four runs ! in the second inning by bunching their hits. The5r other two runs were made in the fourth. Anaconda made two runs :n the first, two in the third and one in the fourth. There were some errors, but generally speaking the game was a most interesting one.
