Show I . j Obituary. Canning. Quite a circle of loving friends attended at-tended the funeral services of Miss Eva Irene Canning, which were held at the cathedral on Wednesday morning morn-ing at 10 o'clock. The lovely young girl was for many months an invalid, and her death was. not unexpected, but to those who knew and loved her best, the loss is irrcpar- i able. Were it not for the desolation in the hearts, of the dear ones left to mourn, there would be joy in the knowledge knowl-edge that God took to himself the sweet young soul that was too pure, too angelic for this unhappy world. God often, does with pure holy .souls what the skilful gardener does ivith tender plants. He watches over, them for a time, and then transplants them to His own treasured garden for all eternity. Miss. Canning died on Monday and solemn high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father' Deneaf on Wednesday morning. The Gregorian requiem was well sung by the cathedral choir, with Miss Harley and J. D. Sullivan as soloists. The funeral sermon preached by Rev. Father Deneaf was a brief, but eloquent tribute to the fair 'young girl. - . ... Father Deneaf, who was her spiritual spiri-tual adviser and attended her daily during dur-ing her final illness, could speak with truth of the edifying life and death of the deceased. Her sunny, happy nature na-ture endeared her to all, and her Christian Chris-tian patience and bravery through long; months of pain was- truly wonderful. The loss is not hers,, but that of those ! who are bereft on earth, and in that loss they, are tendered earnestCand sincere sympathy. , Let it be their consolation con-solation that a saintly soul has gone home to -watch oyer their earthly destiny, and intercede for them until they meet again where life's heart aches and tears are unknown. Her sun went down, in life's morning when all was bright and fair, but the valley of death was sweeter than life's cares, and death's beautiful calm that fell on her pure spirit was the sweet calm peace. i)f God. May the final "rest J of the patient little sleeper be sweet! |
