Show Obituary. DEATH OF FATHER MARTIN. The Ary Rev. Anthony Martin, Superior Su-perior General of the Marist order, died on Saturday. March 25. -Born in Lyons, France, in 1S22, he lived to reach very nearly his eighty-third eighty-third year. He entered the Marist order at the age of 22. having been attracted thereto there-to chiefly by his strong desire to devote de-vote his life to missionary work among the inhabitants of the Oceanican islands. isl-ands. But as a theological student he attracted the favorable attention of his superiors, who recognized in him a student of more than ordinary ability. abil-ity. After having completed a successful suc-cessful course in theology, he was appointed ap-pointed professor and supervisor of one of the largest seminaries of the Marist society in France. He was appointed first assistant to the late Father Fa-bre, Fa-bre, hir; predecessor in office, and on his death was elected general of the I order in 1SS6. It was during his ad-! ad-! ministration that the Province of America, was founded., and iu its wel- fare he always took special interest. It is said that the recent troubles in France, the closing of many of the most prosperous houses of the society and the dispersion of the members of the order, hastened his death. He is represented hi this country by Father Provincial, the head of the province, who resides in AVashington, D. C, the mother house for this country. HALLY. The news of the death of. John Hally, formerly of this city, was received by friends during the past week. The deceased was about 25 years old, and was born in County AVaterford, Ireland. For several years he lived in Park City, and then went to Africa to fight with the Boers in the late war. Recently he went to the old home in Ireland, where he died. He was a brother of Mrs. M. H. Kervin, who is now in Europe, and of Sister Mary Amelia, of the Sisters of the Holjr Cross In this city. The heartfelt sympathy of many friends is extended to the bereaved relatives. rel-atives. The deceased was an exemplary young man, who won the love and respect re-spect of all who knew him. May he rest in peace! SKOJVIK. The body of Antonio Skojvik. the Austrian who was killed in the Bingham Bing-ham riot, was given a Crristian burial Wednesday, from the parlors of O'Donnell, O'Don-nell, the services being conducted by 1 Rev. Father Kiely. The interment was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. |
