Show HILLTOP TIMES TIMES 13 July 15, 2010 Upgrade allows civilians to update awards online or deliver an approved award certificate or other award documentation to the local civilian personnel section or training office. Monetary awards, such as notable achievement, special act or service, and time-off awards, must still be updated by the local CPS. Although supervisors can view and print the awards entered by the employee, they cannot update their employees' information. This timely and customerfocused initiative is similar to the self-service education update initiative launched in August 2008 Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs R ANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas - Civilian employees can now update their non-monetary awards through the self-service module in the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System using the "Awards and Bonuses" tab in "My Biz." The ability to update non-monetary awards, such as length of service recognition, exemplary civilian service award and Air Force Civilian Achievement Award, eliminates the need to fax, e-mail and the training update initiative launched in September 2009. While this additional self-service capability allows employees direct access to update awards, officials strongly encourage users to review their inputs for accuracy before submitting them. Knowingly entering false or misleading information is punishable by disciplinary action, monetary fines or both. For more information on the automation of civilian records, call the Total Force Service Center at 1 (800) 525-0102. i TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR OF OUR STORE WWW.QUALirYC0NSIGNMEN7S.NET HOTPOINT GAS RANGE Commissary reset will improve shopping experience F ORT LEE, Va. — In true military style, commissary customers can show their ability to survive. Survive change, that is. The time for change has come to the Hill Air Force Base Commissary. The Commissary will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., July 25. "We'll be closed for a complete store reset July 26, 2010, through July 27, 2010," said Store Director Karen Ochsner. The commissary will reopen July 28, with its new look. The Defense Commissary Agency is in a continual process of changing how products are placed on commissary shelves. New products are added to stores all the time, while some are eliminated, so every few years a commissary simply needs to be reorganized or "reset." The goal is also to give commissaries worldwide a more customer-friendly product flow and a layout that is as consistent as possible from location to location. "We hate to inconvenience customers," said Ochsner. "But we can do our job more quickly and efficiently if we can close the store to tear down shelving, move it around, widen or change aisles if necessary, and restock. We think overall customers will find they have a better shopping experience when the store reopens." Customer resistance to change can be the biggest challenge, according to Ochsner. "But customers usually like the new layouts once they get used to it." To make changes easier for customers to follow, Hill AFB Commissary will update its floor plan on the Hill AFB store Web page at www.commissaries.com. Store Web pages are under the locations link at www.commissaries.com along with store hours, contact information, store news and special customer service features. "We'll also have an aisle map available for customers who just want to know where their favorite products have been moved, but we encourage everyone to walk all the aisles of the store and get a feel for the changes," Ochsner said. "You never know, you might find something you never even knew we had!" The Defense Commissary Agency operates a worldwide chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones. Shoppers save an average of 30 percent or more on their purchases compared to commercial prices — savings worth about $2,700 annually for a family of four. A core military family support element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits, commissaries contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for America's military and their families. Transition Assistance Program at AFRC A four day transition workshop for separation and retiring personnel and their family members has been scheduled for July 26-29 from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The workshop is designed to prepare members to conduct a successful transition — job searching, skills assessment, career exploration, resume writing and interview techniques.
