Show Sanpete Democrats Name Complete County Ticket Gunnison's Efforts to Get Recognition Fails and South End Only Gets One Nominee. Last Saturday the democrats of Sanpete county met at Gunnison and nominated a county and legislative ticket to be voted On at the coming November election. Delegates from practically every precinct in the county were present, and these with the visitors, lobbyists and candidates swelled the crowd of visitors to nearly near-ly 200. County Chairman Nielson of iVl t. Pleasatn called the convention to order at 11:15. Immediately John S. Plain, of Spring City was intro- j duced as temporary chairman of the i convention. Mr. Blain consumed considerable time in his address, and it was past the noon hour wnen the resolution and platform, credentials and organization committees had been appointed. Chairman Blaine lauded Gunnison City, the valley and all citizens for the hospitality extended the delegates dele-gates and visitors. He landed on the republican party, form a local, state and national standpoint, charging charg-ing them with failure to fulfill promises. The veto of the bonus bill, the tariff and other matters were rapped by the speaker. Chairman Blaine gave hosts of praise to Senator William King and urged the unter-rified unter-rified to give him loyal support, and in closing admonsihea tne delegates j at tho convention to select men of I standing and integrity and men who ! would be fair and square and honest to their constituents and the public. ! Immediately on reconvening at 2 j o'clock Milton II. Welling, candidate for re-election to congress, and Douglas A. Swan, state chairman on organization for the democratic party were intrduccd. Mr. Swan spoke brieily on the organization of j was that of county attorney, A. E. Park being named by acclamation. Owing to the fact that Gunnison and the southern end of the county were "squelched" in so for as recognition recog-nition other than county attorney was concerned, the feeling was not the best and the party leaders here declared the "spanking" was too severe to be received with relish. Special features of the convention program was a solo by Mrs. Emily Knighton and a reading by Miss Ruth Perkins. Both numbers were warmly received by the visitors and delegates. ine party inrougi out tne state ana was then followed by Congressman Welling. Mr. Welling spoke for a half hour on the national administration administra-tion affairs. Opening the nominations for the various state and county officers was announced by Chairman Blaine and immediately Mayor J. V. Jones placed the name of O. B. Berglund of Gunnison before the convention for the ohVe of state senator. Ephraim, Eph-raim, contrary to expectations, stepped step-ped into the ring for the coveted place and Chris. Willardson was pitted pit-ted against the Gunnison nominee. The first ballot settled the matter and the Ephraim nominee won out with a vote of 78 as against 36 for Berglund. j Before the convening of the delegates, dele-gates, - it is charged, Ephraim was willing for the senatorial nomination to come to the south end of the conuty. During the recess period Moroni announced her intention ol wanitng a commissionership, an office of-fice sought by the Ephraim delegation. delega-tion. ith the chances gone for the commissioner Ephraim made a swap and landed the northern delegations for her support for the senator and the "gig"was up for the sounth end. Some difficulty was experienced in locating candidates who would! accept the nominations for the office of representatives to the state legislature. legis-lature. Henry R. Thomas of Wales, named by R. Hansen, and Solden Edwards Ed-wards of Sterling, placed before the convention by Brig. Jensen, were; nominated by acclamation for' the j offices. J. M. Knighton was nemed i for the office but declined to accept. : J. B. Seeley of Mt. Pleasant had a a walk-away for the four-year term of county commissioner. Seeley was : given the pi inn by acclamation. j For the 2-year term of county; commissioner Orlando Bradley, with- i out opposition, went in by a'cclama- j tion. The county treasurership was i given to Ephraim, F. Y. Jensen be-' ing the choice of the convention by acclamation. George Fisher drew the nomination nomina-tion for sheriff of the convention, anal it came without an effort. Therr were no other candidates in the field ;ind Fisher was the unanimous choice of the delegations. For the clerkship there were twe candidates named. Emil Nielson of Spring City, and F. R. Lamb of tt ales were pitted against each other for this office. Nielson received re-ceived the nomination, his vote being 91 as against 21 for Lamb. Frank Dennison of Mayfield was named by acclamation for the office of recorder and Freeman Allred of Spring City had no trouble in being named for the office of county surveyor. sur-veyor.
