Show Influenza Sweeps Trough Valley As a result of an epidemic of Influenza, In-fluenza, which has been raging in Gunnison for more than two weeks, the schools of the city, together with the picture show, have been closed for an Indefinite period. Not only does this apply in Gunnison, but the schools of Centerfield, have also been closed. The action on the part of the authorities is taken as a precautionary pre-cautionary moaauro with a view to stamping out the malady as quickly as possible. Not since 1920 has the Influenza shown so strongly as It has during tlx; present winter. Dr. Hagan, city health physiclal, reports that more than 200 cases in this city alone, have been treated during the past two weeks. The conditions, however, how-ever, were reported yesterday, to be slightly better In Gunnison and those nelng treatod were progressing nicely. nice-ly. Dr. Hagen advises the utmost care when attacked by the disease. Those stricken with the malady will eliminate danger if they will keep themselves warm, avoid exposure, keep quite and use proper foods. When the first symptoms appear call your physician and follow his instructions in-structions implicitly. Thus far the disease, only in a very few instances, has reached the second stage, that of pneumonia. A few of these cases have been reported, report-ed, and while one or two were of a' most serious form, the patients have passed the crisis and practically all danger has passed. No quarantine quaran-tine has been established in the city as yet and it is not likely that it will be necessary. When cases are reported re-ported the patients are isolated and due care exercised to prevent exposure. expo-sure. Fortunately the malady, as it has iippeureu uns winter, is not ol tne virulent form and the patient, ordinarily, ordin-arily, passes through the worst stages within a few days. While the situation in Gunnison has shown a big improvement, the malady Is getting a foothold in Centerfield Cen-terfield and other parts of the valley. Many cases have been reported from both Axtell and Centerfield and in a few cases pneumonia has developed. devel-oped. The citizens are co-operating with the doctors of the "city to check further fur-ther spread of the disease and it is believed with the sudden change of weather and with a lower temperature, tempera-ture, the epidemic will be a thing of the past. When the situation became acute it was thought that ouside nurses would have to be brought in but the (volunteer services offered by both men and women of the city, made this move unnecessary. |
